Leaky Valve Cover

After replacing my cv boots found out that my rear valve cover is leaking. Going to buy the gaskets from Dali but now I'm debating if this is an easy DIY project. I've done this on my SOHC and was simple. Has anyone else done this? If so, should I take it to a specialist or do it myself?

Thanks,

its pretty easy. Just remember to remove your strut brace above your valve cover so you can get some more space to remove it.

You might want to replace your plug well gaskets and the small gasket that separates the timing belt from your cams. gluing them in place also helps from them falling out or rolling over the mating surface when installing.

its probably the spool valves. I replaced mine, tightened them, drove the car, still got that small exhaust smell and small amount of smoke in the beginning then it clears... looked there again and it still leaked!!! so I had to retighten it to specs with a torque wrench, what a pain in the butt to get a torque wrench down there, but I did...

Where in San Diego are you located?

I can help you if you run into trouble. I've installed over a dozen of them on the NSX already.

I can also help you get OEM parts if you need it at a great discount.

Since your taking the valve cover off, you might consider doing a valve clearance check also while you have the cover off. But it depends how many miles you have on your car and when it was last done.

When you do the valve cover gaskets, it makes sense to do the tube seals (spark plug gaskets).

Although the valve cover isn't always the oil leak culprit, you should change them it you haven't done so already.

The spool valve gasket (vtec solenoid gasket) tends to leak more often than the valve cover gasket.

The hardest part is getting the rear valve cover off and putting it back on correctly.

The trick to getting it off is to turn the passenger side of the valve cover counterclockwise towards the front of the car. That should give you the room the remove it. Installation is reverse.

Keep you eye on the O2 sensor wires when installing. It tends to get in the way and get caught under the valve cover gasket.
