is there anything tricky to fixing leaking vtec spool valves? I read that there are 2 different gaskets to replace..but I was wondering if there is anything tricky to working on these components. Like, is there something that needs to re-engage when putting it bak onto the head..or something along those lines. I have no clue what is inside the darn thing. I'm a reasonably skilled shade tree mechanic and would like to save a few buck and have a little fun working on my new purchase.

Nothing difficult about replacing the gaskets other then getting to the bolts. There are two gaskets on each assy. but the one that leaks is the one between the spool valve and the block so you really only have to replace that one.

so nothing will fall out and roll into the black hole in my garage? Nothing to "line up" when putting back together(other then the bolt holes)?

Here are some pictures of the spool valve and gaskets for those who've never seen them.
