Lazy windows in 97 NSX-T

Hi prime,

Just picked up my 97 NSX yesterday.

First job is to fix the windows, which are very slow on the upward stroke. In fact, the driver's side needs a helping hand to get it all the way up. Is this likely to be a regulator problem or something I can fix with proper greasing of the mechanism? What sort of grease do I need to use - anything or is some special stuff?

thanks in advance for your help....

Get Service Manual(download from here)

1. Disassemble Door(s)
2. Clean
3. Regrease with Honda Urea Grease
4. Reassemble

Thanks Larry.

Got the 91 manual (assume the 97 door no different from the 91).

I guess I'll find out for myself, but to get to the bits I need to lubricate, is it just taking the panels / vapor barrier off the door, or do I have to strip it down all the way?

thx!

I recently did this to both of my window/regulators. I also replaced the window regulator cable retainers, also known as "Window Thingies". I used the aluminum ones from Science of Speed (SOS).

I have attached a couple pictures of how I relieved the tension on the cable and removed the retainers. This was the easy part. Getting the window slider rails greased took more time. Let me know if you have any questions or need more pictures. I have more.

OK, here is the last one. If you need any more pictures just drop me an e-mail at [email protected]

Remember that the two vice grips don't need to be too tight, just enough to hold the cable.

Thanks for the pix Brad. Does this mean I need to take the entire assembly out of the door to fix, or did you do this because you were replacing the window thingy.

I recall from previous research the window thingy repair is only needed for 91-93..... hoping this is not something I need to do with my 97, although there are some slightly ominous sounds coming from the winding mechanism.

Ah well, guess I'd better roll up my sleeves and get stuck in... have to be next weekend as family responsibilities intervene this w/e

Oh, one more question... when it comes to the moisture barrier, how do I re-attach this? Is it self adhesive, do I need to get find some new adhesive for it.... what is the best way?

thanks all!

Remember the 1997 cars already have the fixed regulator:). The regulators were updated in 1993.

Larry, When I removed my regulators I found that they were the updated ones. The retainer is "Boxed" all the way around. Is this the updated regulator? I did notice that even though the regulator is boxed in that the plastic retainer was showing some signs of fatigue.

To answer "why remove the regulator"
first, was to replace the retainers with the aluminum and
second, was to get it where I could clean and properly lubricate the regulator. It really needs to come out to clean, inspect and lubricate it. It's only like 9 bolts and a wire harness retainer to remove it. I also use the "Quick Grip on the glass to hold it up to grease the rails. Just clamp the glass on the front and rear edge and let it gently slide down. This way you can also move the window up and down by hand after adding the new grease to work it in well.

my driver and passenger showed some of these signs as well but all i did was
to apply grease on the rails and now windows go up a lot easier now.
i checked that plastic piece that usually breaks but it seems to hold up pretty good. not even broken but i can always change later when needed.

Likewise, my driver side window was slow, all it needed was greasing, my local acura dealership did it for 40 dollars:tongue:
