Saw this article at the local japanese newstand yesterday. Something for you to chat about :)

The article basically says the new car will be cheaper than the last one approx 6,000,000 yen. The 4 litre v8 and 3.7 turbo v6 ideas have been scrapped in favour of a 340-370 horsepower
s-vtec engine, the engine will be more compact and will be fitted lengthways.

The boot (trunk) will be smaller and the cabin area bigger. The body will be both aluminium and steel. It will weigh the same as the current NSX. The diagram at the top left evidently indicates that honda wants the car to feature aspects of all the cars in its type-r line and the s2000. The article mentions something about a hybrid 4wd system.

The final design elements are yet to be finalised. IN these pics the lights have been remodeled slightly (very g-tr) new mirrors, mr2 intake style, remodeled bumper(slightly) and emblem on the bonnet instead of the bumper. Head lights are slightly different too.

Enjoy :)

Hmm... looks like a very toned down HSC. Not near as exotic. 340-370 HP and same weight as current car... *yawn*

If it is true, hopefully they don't re-use the NSX name.

Seems very boring compared to the future models of the cars the NSX currently claims to compete with.... i.e. Porsche 911 and the entry-level cars from Ferrari.

It actually looks like a narrow and stubby version of the new Ferrari 430.

FYI

6,000,000.00 JPY Japan Yen = 53,985.62 USD

At that price it is head to head with a vette. It could sell well, but PLEASE do not call it NSX.

Looks way to compact... it doesnt quite seem right even for the 50K range (S2000 looks meaner to me). The bubbly look just doesn't aggressive enough, it reminds me of something along the lines of an RX8. That narrow light design also seems a bit to overdone at the moment (Ferrari, Lamborghini, 350z, and to some degree the celica). I wish they wouldnt just go along with whatever the current thing is and make something a bit more revolutionary. Just my thoughts... :(

I just realised it reminded me a lot of the next gen nsx concept prior to the 02 facelift. Now if only they made the next gen RSX look like that... :D

Bleh. Looks like a Toyota MR-S Spudder. I don't think Honda would put out such an ugly car.

I like it better than the first HSC, but I have to agree that the side scoops scream Toyota. I wonder if it was just a Toyota-lover photochopping the HSC and offering up his preferred version the way we do with our own chops.

I really like that yellow concept. I'd buy that.

Is it just me or do the intakes on the side look like a lotus elise? In my opinion they should (honda) release the hsc with a slightly revised rear end and side intakes.

I wish it had more NSX styling cues. To me some of these include:
-rear integrated spoiler
-large rear lense
-side scoops
-pop up lights

I'm not saying to keep them all, but they didn't include any of them (the HSC side scoops aren't really what I'd consider comparable to the current gen). Someone did a cool photochop before... HSC + 02 NSX rear. Very cool

Yuck! That car is either smaller than an Elise or is sporting 24's!
Looks like they took every controversial design element of the HSC (except the B-pillar) and dumbed it down in an attempt to
offend no one . What they ended up with is a silly-looking car!
Bring on the real HSC (with smaller, less guady wheels please)!

Seems to be aiming at Elise/Exige/Boxter market, the price is good. I think it will sell well, but will mean we will see about 10 of them a day...
And please don't call it NSX.

I wish it had more NSX styling cues. To me some of these include:

I'd say the picture is another concept, as it said in the article the design is still up in the air.

Does it say when its going to be out?

Sometime between now and death! i'll ask the nsx dealer in a fortnight if he knows anything when i go pick up my lights :) They're all very tight lipped around here!

P.S. The magazine said the wheels were to be 285/35 18's.

This could all be conjecture on their part, nice to speculate though. :)

If you ask me, thats not an NSX.

The day Porsche successfully releases a new Porsche at 40% less than the previous generation and doesnt lose a flotilla of respect will be the day I agree that taking the NSX down to the $55k ghetto is a good idea.

If they do release something like that and call it an NSX, I sincerely believe it will demolish the heritage and value of the car.

I have to try to somehow get more info on this. If they REALLY are going that route, Ill unload my X now and just get the 911TT.

Ill be homicidal if, after spending $80+ AND modding the thing Im faced with a value of $30k in 4 years because Honda has decided to start making money by prostituting the NSX badge...

It would be proof that Japan really doesnt have what it takes to attract and keep true high end buyers and Europe will just always own that space.

Nobody asked me, but it looks okay. Definitely not NSX replacement material though - it doesn't seem exotic enough.
Looks like a photoshopped HSC - they improved the side intakes (BIGGGER! :D ) and the rear looks marginally better but why they are sticking with round rear lights... i just dont dig it.

the hood looks more RSX-like and less NSX-like, which is bad if Honda want's this to be an exotic.

4WD sounds sexy. 340-370hp puts it above the NSX line which is not good.

Seems like Honda is still just farting around with ideas...

Another thing to consider is that the Japanese press is famous for speculating on the "new NSX" and have been rumor mongering for years.

So far none of it has turned out to be true. Im going to keep my fingers crossed that Honda won't let the NSX faithful down by watering down the brand.
