good news on NSX 2nd generation!

Honda is the first one to apply for the cancellation of the "300HP" restriction on production car.

if the application is granted by the Japan market.
we will definitely see 400HP NSX and Nissan GTR cars in 2006

**I think Japan government starts to understand how dumb thing this is ":D

CLARIFY SOMETHING FIRST

the restriction is 280HP, not 300HP

why it is strangely 280HP??
because in that year, the death rate by car accident is very high,
and the highest HP is the Fairlady (Z-car ) at 280HP
so the government sets the restriction at 280HP

another restriction,
top speed is 180KM/H
(but many people will install chips to override that.)

ADDITIONAL NOTE

actually there is no restriction for export model (not to sell in Japan)

so Honda actually can make 400HP NSX,
but the problem is

a 400HP NSX must have a stronger body design than a 300HP NSX
and if they make the NSX to be suitable for a 400HP version

(1)the Japanese who buy the 300HP in Japan will be paying too much because the body is too good.

(2)the export model means Honda has to set up another production line....which is another set of investment.
**and the original production line is still losing money every year.

Isn't it technically 280ps ;)

And where did you find the news about their application? link?

This is something the Japanese just have to deal with at some point. Chevrolet is selling more Corvettes than some Japanese sedans. If they want some of that business, they have to yield somewhere. There are officially NO serious sports cars at less than 300hp.

It wouldnt be the first time they did this either. The US spec Supra TT came with 320hp and it has become well known that the car was EASILY capable of 400hp without changing any fundamentals at all (injectors, bottom end, suspension, chasis, brakes, etc.)

Now it could be that Japan doesnt want to really attempt to compete in that market any longer....

what's the difference between ps & hp is a equal unit of measure??

you find these kind of informations easily if you live in Asia, as more people are more aware of the Japan automotive industry.

**yes, this is the latest news from Japan.
and there will be an answer with 2004

Especially when you live IN Japan ;)

280 was a gentlemens agreement, broken long ago. I'd like to see the 'application' story you refer to as well, any links?

The speed limiter you refer to is usually among the first things to go (In australia anyway) Especially with our skylines. Common as commodores now eh, Neo?

Glad you said that, I didn't think the 280ps/hp agreement was LAW?
