Working on it, practice, practice, practice...Thank you....

This is a 1.04 on Firebird East. I finished 4th in TTU on this day against full out race cars.
Imagine what it’s like to run 1.01 like Mark does in his Viper, LOL...

Almost got ya :) Finished up with a 1:04.7

NSX's taking over Jim!

Saw that Ravi, nice job !
I couldn't make it back out Sunday, lifted a head on Saturday after my first and only session, otherwise I believe I could have made it into the 1.03's

Question and may be a dumb one so I apologize in advance
I'm new to NSx and have had mine just a short while...
Is it safe and ok on the engine to push my rpms to 5,000-7,000 on a daily basis on the freeway?
It's so much fun and sounds great between 5-7,000 but seems like it could be harsh on the engine and trans.
Thoughts?
Thank you

I should have been in the 1.03's.
Started Lifting a head my first and only time out on Saturday. Decided it wasn't worth screwing up a perfectly good motor. So I called it a weekend...

I expect low1.0'3's next time to East. With the changes I'm currently making, maybe 1.02's :-)

My goal is a 1:03.7 next time :)

If only power was an option! lol

I stay between 5500 and 7500 on the race track for usually 4-20 to 30 minutes sessions at a time.

On the street, I pretty much always run my rpms up to 5-6000 most of the time and cruise in the 3500 to 4000 range.

If your motor is healthy, it shouldn't hurt it.

Question and may be a dumb one so I apologize in advance

Renshaw gave me some tips and said I can get to 1:02s with two minor changes... which are happening...

but I still need to do the driver mod to capitalize on the changes!

Again, no power. Just tweaking :)

You're getting faster all the time Ravi...
You should be driving 10+ sessions a day, LOL

Will be interesting to see how we do at Main next month. Looking forward to getting back on Main.

how did you know the heads were lifting?

Nice vid.
What's that chatter/sputter at the top of your RPM range?

I'm by no means a track expert, but I do have a few dozen track days under my belt. I was just watching your vid and looks like you could go a little wider on some of the turns like the one in 0:32 (following the driving line closer to the 350Z) or 1:39 (like the Civic). I think you'd be able to get on the throttle earlier for more speed down the straight.
2:17 is another point that I would think a wider (and later turn in) would set you up better for the straight.

Coz, actually some constructive criticism, especially after watching my videos of you...
You like to enter VERY early but rarely have the steering input to come out in an optimal place on the track. Something to think about :)

By all means hit me up offline if you want any other feedback, since I tend to have alot of time chasing you :)

I see that too watching the video's...aren't they great to have.
Last time out, I felt I was too and started reminding myself to stay wider longer and turn in to a better apex.
Problem was I didn't get much of a chance to practice it since I only ran one session and started lifting a head so I didn't go out anymore.

Firebird Main in January, more practice :-)
I did get a very nice compliment from Tage though for the end of the year about seeing a sizable improvement this year :-)
Which means a lot coming from Tage considering he is the fastest out there with us and on a National level as well.

From: Tage Evanson
I've seen a sizeable improvement in your driving this year. Don't forget, you drive an turbo "NSX" that looks pretty cool. Also, not everyone is in TT. Put some decent tires on that car and I think you'll be faster than you give yourself credit for. I'm not just saying that to be nice either. You really are developing as a driver and I mean that. The nice thing about running with guys who are faster is it makes YOU faster. If everyone is slower than you, it's tough to improve...

For my first serious year out since 86, I'm happy with the progress so far :-)
Practice, practice, practice...

That flutter is blow off pressure not venting fast enough from the turbo or blow off valve.
Situation is being fixed. Turbo got rebuilt and vented shroud housing got added.
That should take care of the problem.

I agree Hapa....
I never realized until I started studying the video's how tight and early I was.
Next time out in January it's going to be a primary focus.
Thanks for the feedback and Merry Christmas !

Sorry John, didn't see your question....

Process of elimination...starting awhile back.
When we built this motor, we torqued the heads to OEM spec's not taking into account the boost.

After about 4000 miles and several track days I started using a lot of water. But there was no water mixing with the oil. So I though it might be a cracked head. Pulled the motor, pulled the head and it checked out fine.

Put it back together but this time torqued it down to 72 ft pounds after talking to Fes at FXMD.

Everything was fine for another 2000 miles and some more track days. Then it started again, used 1 gallon of water in a 20 minute track session. So now it's the other head.

Dumb ass me, I should have done both of them when I redid the first one...But was working under the theory if it's not broke, don't fix it. Big mistake since now I get to drop the motor and do it again. (doing it now)

Lesson learned. At least no serious damage was done. It'll all be worth it when you're out there tearing things up!

Merry Christmas.

Honda engines can run continuously pretty much forever, below their factory rev limit which in NSX's case means 8000 rpm.

Excellent. Yeah I was noticing that 180 degree turn. If you look at (on your first video) your steering input at 0:36 - 0:37, you tuck in at the very last second to make the apex. Go wider, apex slightly later and you won't have to do this.

Anyway, happy holidays and good luck in Jan! Let's see those times get down!!

Thanks Adrian !
