lap times at Road America

2:45 is a bit optimistic. I have been running RA for 10 years, and am one of the fastest NA NSX's, and I run 2:40 flat. (stock brakes, Motul 600, Hawk HP+, stock 91 wheels with Kumho slicks) Most guys will be in the 2:50's

Fastest street NA NSX to date is myself and Nick Zylstra @ 2:39

Fastest street FI NSX to date is Kip Olson (supercharged) @ 2:24

Fastest race NA NSX to date is Mike Bergman @ 2:29

Fastest race FI NSX to date is Peter Cunningham @ I believe 2:20

We will be there at the first event in 2008 with 3-4 NSX's watch here http://roadamerica.fbody.us/ for signup. You can do single days, or a weekend. You are allowed to ride in other cars, and also give rides. We can give you some pointers. There are 4 run groups....

Novice (3min or slower)
Intermediate (2:50's)
Advanced (2:40's)
Assertive (2:30's)

I added the times to the classes, based on personal experience. If you have NEVER been to the track, and only have a few HPDE's under your belt, I would reccomend Intermediate. If you are skilled at your home track, sign up for Advanced. I usually run assertive, but run advanced a lot to run with the other NSX's that show up. Assertive is packed full of 500+ bhp cars!

Email me with any other questions about joining us in April.

Interesting that fast NSX times are similar to my Spec Racer Ford I used to race.

Question: Is the 2:40 ran with real slicks or just R tires? Aren't slicks worth about 3 seconds a lap at a normal track and maybe 5 or 6 at RA?

Q2: How would you describe the "real race NA NSX"? What race class? With slicks or R tires?

Thanks!

Q2: PD Cunningham's supercharged NSX ran in the World Challenge GT class. I believe shaved BFG R-1's were the tire being used at that time. Now it's shaved Toyo's.

(1)You are correct, I was using full depth Kumho Victoracers (R-tires) for the 2:40 and that was with a passenger. I would be about 2:35 solo, and with real slicks.

(2)It was a SCCA Acura of Brookfield car (I believe GT2) stock motor, stock wing, full roll cage full slicks. Similar to the Acura of Brookfield car at NSXPO.

Yes, PD ran 2 different setups (NA and S/C). Early on, the car was NA, and ran about a 2:30. After the Vortech, he was running about 2:20. I used to have the sheets on him for qualifying, but I can't find them.

Yeah, I think so. There are a couple of guys I work with who went to RA a year or two ago with their F-Body for this event. I am trying to talk them into coming up again this year.

They say their mostly stock F-Body ran 2:37. That seems pretty fast for a stock Camarobird. Sounds like I/we will have some good non-NSX competition.

I think they are a bit optimistic with any stock mustang, camaro, firebird, and anything short of a C5 or C6 Z06 cracking into the 2:30's I have NEVER had a f-body faster than me, and I have gone for the past 4 years. The cars that are tough are the dozen C6 Z06's with slicks! There is also a good group of Mustang Corba R's that come too. Here is the list from fall (I was not on it, because my car was in the shop from running over a deer carcas!) I did the spring 07 one though same guys. My buddy was also not on the list as he was getting the SOS NA package put on his car! We will both be there in spring 07. I ran shotgun with Kip Olson in fall, what a blast!

hey RP!

I am VERY interested in running my (as soon as I buy one) NSX at RA. I have a decent amount of time logged there on my motorcycle (I am an expert road racer with CCS, GP region), but still I had a few questions.

1. Tires... recommendations? I dont plan on lighting up the world outta the box. Can I run in the lower groups on whatever I show up in?

2. Brakes... any modifications you would suggest? I wont run my race bike at larger tracks without dual carbon pads and steel braided lines... is fade a problem on a stock system?

3. Layout. Just because I'm curious... well and I never go the chance to run the kink on my bike, they added the bend before I started racing... what layout is run?

4. details. who what when where and how do I sign up? Is there anything I need to know regarding equipment? safety? Can I just show up in my car with a helmet and go or is there any other requirements I need to be aware of. also will my DOT approved MC road race helmets work or do I need to go shopping? I am very green to the car side of this, very experienced with the MC side... can you help me out?

Thanks a ton brother! Looking forward to:

A. Buying my first NSX
B. Driving the wheels off it!

take care

Ok here goes......
(1) I know you are skilled on 2 wheels, but have you done any high speed NSX track driving? I am thinking no, since you are purchasing one. The NSX is a bit of a different beast than other sports cars, and RA as you know is a "rookie killer" @ turn 7, turn 8, the kink, and turn 13. It happens every weekend. I would suggest running street tires the first few times, and since you have cycle experience, running novice will be absurd. Start in intermediate. You will then be able to jump in with us in the other groups for rides, and vice versa. If and when you do step up the tires, we run Kumho victoracers on stock wheels, and Toyo RA1 or Nitto NT-01 on after market sizes.

(2)Brakes YES you will absolutely need to flush out your stock waterlogged crap and run Motul 600. s.s. lines are not needed, but not a bad idea. Also we have good luck with the Hawk HP+ pads. The NSX will last all weekend on a fresh set of fluid and pads. I run Motul 600 and HP+ pads on stock rotors. I also run stock 15/16 wheels with Kumho victoracers. I run the fastest non boosted NSX times.

(3) the kink. Windy City BMW club HPDE in MAy is the ONLY group that runs the chicane. We run the regular track with the kink seperating the men from the boys! I crack 140 mph into 12!

(4) put this in your favorites http://roadamerica.fbody.us/

Keep an eye on it after the new year.

About Helmets for the 2007 Season
Effective January 1, 2007, we can no longer accept Snell-95 certifications. This means all helmets must be Snell-2000 certification or higher. Please check your helmets to make sure they meet this requirement!

They will give your car a quick tech sat morning or sun morning (if you run sunday only) You can run stock belts etc. They do allow a Fri night car drop-off time, to make sat morning less stressfull.

you can always email me [email protected] for more info. I can help with a place to stay, tools garage etc. We will be running 3 NSX's minimum. You should have seen Kip Olson last year (what a treat!)

email sent, thanks for the details!!

I'll hit you up when I make a purchase, hopefully its before spring! I wonder if there is a day I can get up there thats around my CCS round so I can spend a week in WI! I'll have to cross reference the schedule! 2 weekends at RA one on the bike one in the car would be worth a weeks vacation!!!

thanks again!!

Count me in as the 4th NSX. Plus, I'm going with three more guys. Two will bring an F-body and one a PCA GT3-R 944 turbo. See you next spring.

Cool...not sure if you guys saw these pictures from the last Speedseekers event of 07 in Oct or not.
