Lambo Doors on NSX ? Suggestions? Opinions

I have a 1994 NSX that is in show condition. It's getting more difficult for me to get into and out of the car (age 71) and I'm thinking that Lambo doors might make entry/egress easier. Does anyone have any guidance on a real quality bolt-on installation that is relatively affordable (less than $3k); If someone has made this modification to their car, I'd like to see some images of the results. Recommendations? Any help would certainly be appreciated. Bentonae / Denver

If it has become difficult for you to get in and out it maybe time to move onto something that is more exit and entry friendly but please please do not go the verticle door route.

wait wait wait

you're 71 years old and thinking about lambo doors?

wow.

i'm impressed you still drive a nsx. everyone i know that is 71 has a towncar.

secondly, i don't think you'll find a good kit even if you wanted to do it.

thirdly, i have found the doors to open quite wide on this car, how is it affecting you entry / exit? if anything i would think the nsx's relative height to the pavement would be a bigger issue?

You are going to get a TON of opposers to this modification but in my opinion it's your car do what you need to do to keep it. You want to do it for physical reasons so there's a reason to do it as opposed to a wannabe lambo. Anyway, do a search and you will find a ton of info on it. Here is a link to start you off:

You're right about a car that's not quite as difficult to get into/out-of; however, it would be difficult to part with the NSX. Thanks for the input--Ben

Racerxjling--your link to a previous NSX Prime discussion of the Lambo door issue was excellent. With just a few replies, I'm beginning to see the light, especially after a quick glimpse of that ridiculous yellow Hummer with Lambos. This is my second NSX (both 94s) and over the years, several Porsches before that. The last was a Boxster and if you want problems getting into and out of a car, try the Box with its top up. I've never owned one, but the most ridiculous entry/exit car I've ever experienced was a Plymouth Prowler (with its top up) at a dealership. Again, thanks for the input. Ben

You may want to try to enter and exit a car with those doors before you commit to buying a kit. I would imagine it's actually harder with the lambo doors, especially on a car that wasn't designed for them in the first place.

Dave,

I attended a car show last Saturday and there were two Mustangs with vertical doors. It "looked" like there was more swing-in space for my legs and feet at the leading edge of the opening when the door was up, rather than wide open. You may be right about the NSX. The reason for my question on "Prime' was directed to anyone who ever made this conversion on their personal car. Thanks for the suggestion / input. Ben

Ben,

WOW, 71 years YOUNG and in an NSX! You just made my day. Perhaps NSX owners with the lambo doors should chime in and let Ben try getting in and out of your cars. Unfortunately/probably, the stock seats have already been replaced with racing buckets by the time the show car reaches the lambo door stage.
Ubiquitous wear on the driver side bolsters of EVERY NSX is an indication of some ingress/egress limitations so Ben's concerns are legitimate. Any car shows in the area that Ben can attend?

Best Regards,

Danny

are you going to comfortably be able to reach forward to grab and pull the door back down though? i would think that would be harder than what you are doing now...

and I'm thinking that Lambo doors might make entry/egress easier.

lambo doors will NOT make it any easier to get into the car. in actuality, it will make it harder to exit/and enter the car. because the original car isn't designed to have a full upward scissor motion, you'll notice the front area of the door is squared off, while as murcielago/diablos have a hinge shaped front door, allowing leg clearance as you slide in and out.

lambo doors forces you to sit "butt" in first, then leg your legs in and out. without the hinged door shape, you'll have a harder time doing it. i've seen numerous people hitting their heads, bumping their legs into "modified lambo" doors.

lambo doors simply serve a 'look' purpose, and no real functionality in our case. hope that helps.

Most kits require rolling the fender to get the door to clear none of the kits offered are 100% bolt on at least none of the ones that I know of. I would suggest beefing up what ever kit you decide to get, most kits are just for show they don’t work very good for every day use their awkward to use and not very sturdy (they wobble around in the wind when u got them up). A guy I work with has them in his civic they are the bolt on gt factory type. The Body shop recommended welding them on because a customer complain that in high wind conditions it actually ripped the bolts from the frame where they attach. ( lol, that must of sucked)

If is a got to have mod I would go with Vertical doors they have ben around the longest.

In my opinion your money would be better spent on something else, is not worth the headache.
I think that Lambo doors don’t belong on an NSX!
If the car don’t look like it could come form the factory with your new modification I feel it don’t belong.

Too much work and money, but it looks really nice. The nsx actually match it since its a two door sports car that sits low to the ground. I think it would also be easier to get out of the car since the door is farther away from your knees when you step out. I would love to see it if you get it done.

Thanks everyone for the input. As for Lambo doors on my 94, I don't think it's such a hot idea after all. I did some measurements and found out that the "knee-swing room" is as good or better with the stock door than it would be a Lambo conversion. Again...I appreciate the suggestions and opinions. Lowellhigh79..thanks for the kudo. The golden years do in fact, suck, but the days are sweeter when I get a chance to take the NSX up into Colorado's high country. I had to give up flying aerobatics a few years ago because of physical problem; however, driving the "red rocket" close to its limit is just about as much fun. Thanks all... Bentonae
