Laguna 1/20/06

Alright you slacker. Drive fast, take chances and don't forget to spit out that buck-35 lap time that Andrie says your car can do !!!!

Re: What's with the negative vibes??

Yeah, ain't it the truth. Nice guys get beat up the worst on these dang forums.

At first I thought Andrie was jerking you around, but on 2nd thought he's right. Seriously, 1:35 is within your reach. Maybe not this week but sometime and here's why. That time is midpack in my FM class which translates to 1:53 at T-Hill. You were doing 2:05 at T-Hill 3 years ago and you've been hanging around 2 minutes too long. You're due for a breakthrough. We see some Hank Watts and some ARC racers pushing 1:55 at T-Hill and you've got every bit the equipment they do, plus you've got youth and hands over them. I won't harp on the data system this time, but I'll suggest some self coaching with Ross Bentley's "Engineering the Driver" and you'll get there.

We're just beating you up 'cause we know you can.

Fair enough, I have been a the same level for a while. I will work on stepping up my game. Talk to you soon, Kip (slacker for now)

Folks, I think we have all the right ingredients for a good smack stew developing in here .......

Andrie, I still have a $5 for your 1:57 in totally stock NSX

Hey Hrant,

Just curious, whose "stock" NSX is going to be used to break the 1:47?

Don't remember seeing too many NSX's that remain stock these days :p

Maybe Steve (SMGNSX) is willing to lend out his pristine NA2 for a lap or two at Laguna Seca to Andrie. Maybe he can barter a couple of laps for some coaching from Andrie

I can already visualize cracked front rotors and boiled fluid from the venture though.. :D

Ken

Oh yeah, come on Steve. Work a deal with Andrie! I am ready for the pressure to go to someone else. I also think that with the addition of wider rubber on Steve's car that Andrie should be able to get to 1:44 range. Andrie, are you ready for the challenge? Kip

Hi Ted, It went ok! I had a ball. Conditions were not perfect but close. Braking zone coming into turn 2 had water all day coming across the track, and the new french drains (that don't work all that well) around the track kept attracting car tires and splashing water on the track. ALSO WAS ON SOME VERY OLD TIRES! Now that I have exausted all of my slacker excuses, (are you feeling for me yet?) I had a great day and fairly comfortably did a 1:39 and feel that with new tires and a dry track that I can easily better that time. It was one of the best driving days I have attended. So obviously I am still a slacker but I am going again on the 2nd & 3rd of Feb. and am hoping to once again redeem myself as a want to be boy racer? I have the tools, I just need the sack! There you go and let the bashing begin,Take care, Kip

Kip,

see, I'm not far off. You did 1:39 with old tires and some water on track. Considering new tires probably cut you another 1 second, and if there is no water, it is probably another 2 seconds, 1:36 is in the bag. 1:35 is definitely within reach.

I couldn't make it last Friday. But will be there Monday, Jan 30th with NCRC.

Now, who has a stock NSX..... ;)

Good effort my man, especially considering the conditions. So you were "in the groove" and not stretching it much? Good deal; Ross Bentley would be proud. How does that compare to other outings? Any previous lap times at all?

Winter at that track can be nasty. When we were there a few weeks ago, Steve and Hrant wuzzed out and went home when it started to rain after lunch. The hairpin quickly turned into a sheet of silt and my student gave me a few "moments" to remember. I'll bet Turn 9 was pretty wild too; regular little stream crossing the track just past the apex?

I'm especially happy that you are now officially one of us Sacto outlaws that actually cop to a time. Our mantra is "If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space." Question is, can you handle it?

Thanks, It was a great time! Weather could not have been better, Track conditions were not perfect but it could have definitely been worse, My hand did'nt bother me at all and that made my attitude all the better. As far as previous outings, That was definately my best time at laguna. I kind of remember times in the lower 1:40's? I am looking forward to the 2nd & 3rd to see if I can improve on my progress? Kip
