As a San Franciscan NSX'er I would love to attend / have one of these in our backyard:

Dear Past, Present or Future NSXCA Member:
2006 is quickly becoming a memory and 2007 is almost upon us. In past years, the Southwest region of the NSX Club of America (NSXCA), in the Los Angeles area, has sponsored a Holiday Party which has been squeezed in between all the other holiday activities leading up to New Years Day. This year the club would like to try something different.

The L.A. area of the Southwest region NSXCA would like to invite all of the local members of the club to a “WELCOME IN 2007 Party” to be held on Saturday January 13, 2007 at 6:30pm. The party will be held at the Chelsea Restaurant on the fabulous Queen Mary in Long Beach! This event will feature a gourmet 4 course meal with a “No Host” bar in one of the two Four Star restaurants aboard the ship. The NSXCA will sponsor this event by paying for 50% of the meal for you and your guest! That is a $60 savings per couple!

The menu for this event is as follows:

Windsor Castle Feast

Mushroom Ravioli
With Chardonnay Cream Sauce
~~~~~~~~~~
Mesculan Salad
With Goat Cheese and a Marinated Artichoke Heart in a Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing
~~~~~~~~~~
Rolls & Butter
~~~~~~~~~~
CHOICE OF THE FOLLOWING ENTRÉES
Filet Mignon & Lobster Tail Duet
Filet Mignon Pinot Noir with Shiitake Mushrooms and Lobster Tail
Or
Broiled Swordfish Filet
With Spicy Orange Tomato Cluster and Sturgeon Caviar
Or
Mediterranean Scampi
Sautéed in Fresh Herbs, Butter, Roma Tomato, Black Olives and Pinot Grigo
Or
Free Range Chicken Chelsea
Free Range Chicken Topped with Crab Meat and Asparagus Served with a Sun Dried Tomato Basil Sauce
~~~~~~~~~~
Chocolate Cake
With Kahulua
~~~~~~~~~~
Coffee, Tea, Iced Tea
Need a Vegetarian meal? “There will always be available substitutions for your vegetarian guests.”
A Children’s Menu is available for guests 12 years of age and under. These younger passengers have the entrée options of Chicken Fingers with French Fries, Hamburger with French Fries, Grilled Cheese with French Fries or Pasta with Marinara Sauce. Soft Drink, Juice or Milk is also included. The Children’s meals will cost $ 20.00. Sorry Children’s meals will not be subsidized by the Club.
Online sign ups are now available HERE.
Thanks Scott!
The Queen Mary will also provide a dedicated parking area for our cars and the parking is FREE! Just remember to bring your Parking ticket to dinner with you and they will validate it!
If you are interested in extending your stay, aboard ship, the Queen Mary Hotel offers discounted rooms for anyone attending the event. Just call the hotel at (562) 435-3511 and ask for the “Royal Invitational Rate” package and tell them you are with the NSX Club group. A night in the hotel will only cost $ 134.00 for an “Inside Stateroom” (regular $169) and $164.00 for an “Outside Stateroom with a porthole (regular $199).
The room we will be in has a seating limit of 60 people and we need to provide the restaurant with the final number of people by January 3, 2007. Please RSVP to this invitation by completing the form on Page 3 of this letter and submitting it ASAP. The first 60 to sign up will be guaranteed a seat. If the signup exceeds 60 we will start a waiting list if cancellations occur.
To assist the restaurant we need each person to pre-select their entrée so please tell us on the form: “Steak & Lobster”, “Swordfish”, “Scampi”, “Chicken” or “Vegetarian” as well as any Children’s meals required.
As was stated above, to participate in this GREAT event you must be a CURRENT member of the NSXCA. If you are not a Current member of the NSXCA you can pay and additional $ 40.00 and you will become a member for the entire year. Remember if you and a Guest attend you save $ 60.00 so by joining you will still save $ 20.00!
This should be a GREAT way to start 2007 and we look forward to seeing many of you.
Best wishes,
John Richards & Steve Riter
NSX Club activities like these happen because someone has an idea and is willing to make the arrangements. It's really as simple as that! If you (or anyone else) would like to spearhead a similar event on behalf of the club, you can do some preliminary research (find out prices, etc) yourself, and then get in touch with the person in charge of your club region or chapter (in the Bay Area, that's Tom Kohrs, NSXprime username tk) to review the arrangements. He can advise you on the event (e.g. can note any conflicts with other activities) and can also approve whatever subsidy would be made by the regional treasury. You can work with the club treasurer (moi) who can provide wording for your event information regarding how members can make advance payments to sign up for the event, and how he can communicate with you as the signups come in, so you can keep track of attendance. You can make up an event announcement which they can review, and then you can e-mail it to club members in your area. Then it's just a matter of you sitting back as signups take place, (hopefully) posting here on NSXprime, and letting the restaurant know how many people there will be.
Incidentally, the reason we usually require advance payment for such dinners is that the restaurants require a commitment for a specific number of people. In other words, when the club arranges with the restaurant for a group of 60, we are committing to pay for a group of sixty. We need to avoid having the club stuck paying for anyone who doesn't show up after making a reservation, and that's why we ask for payment in advance.
