La Auto Show Sucks

OK, so yesterday I get up early and drag the wife to LA for the Auto Show. Before I even get in the door I'm $30 lighter for tickets and parking, but hey, we're looking at cars here.

The show itself was OK, but if you read 2 or 3 car magazines each month and attended SEMA last month, there weren't a lot of surprises, but there is a whole lot more glitz designed to appeal to the everday Joe. OTOH, the new Lotus looks really good, but it will never be a real Lotus with a Toyota engine - a Toyolot (say it out loud) perhaps?

But here's why the LA AUTO SHOW SUCKS. This morning on the local news they announce that ovenright the new Corvette, Mustang and Dodge's were rolled into the auto show. WTF!! What about all us schmucks that have already gone to the show? Supposedly they didn't want to show the cars until the Detroit show opened up, but where's the relevance? There were no signs posted on the way into the show warning people that all the cars weren't on display yet, nor were there offers of 1/2 price tickets to attend the show since all the cars wouldn't be on display. This is why the LA AUTO SHOW SUCKS - they hold back cars for display and don't warn people that they're doing so.

This is a really shitty decision by the show organizers and while I'm mildy amused at their stupidity, I won't be surprised if others who attended the show fail to see the humor and make a bigger deal out of this.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Dave

I totally agree with you Dave, I went to the show friday evening, and at the show, some of the manufacturers were telling people to come back on Monday, as they'll be getting more cars in..., and I was a bit pissed! As who's going to pay me another $10 and take time off from work to come back to see more cars, when I have assumed that they would have ALL the cars ready to be shown at their own scheduled show time!

In addition, on the way to the show, I heard on the radio commercial that they'll have an Enzo ferrari there along with other cars, however, I did not see the Enzo there, and the whole show was just a big disappointment. I would think So Cal, or LA is one of the bigger market for nice cars! The autoshow has been a real disappointment. Or, maybe from now on, the lesson is not to attend the show in the opening weekend!

Los Angeles has the biggest market of car buyers. We DEMAND respect. With that said, after I bought the NSX, all motivation for attending the LA auto show seemed to have discipated. It's usually an annual ritual for me. Maybe this year I'll start going to the CES show. And for real fun, I'll go across the street for the REAL (AVN) show! ;) I bet you I'll see Tan there! That is, if his wife lets him this time...:D HA HA HA!

Anyway, I went to a dealer in my neighborhood and they have $2 discounts off Auto Show tickets. I got one but I doubt I'll be using it.

LA Show

The $2.00 Off coupon doesn't start till after 4pm. :( I went yesterday at 1:00 and couldn't use the coupon, therefore payed the full $10.

Man, that sucks. But bear in mind, the LA show is still heaps better than what we've got. I went to the one here in Phoenix last year (2002/2003), and compared to the photos from the LA show, it looked like we only got scraps and remnants! Imagine, the highlight of the show was waiting in line to sit in an Infiniti G35 (whoop-di-doo). I didn't even bother going this year.

when did you go andy, i went saturday at around 1-4pm. The s7 was HOTTT!

I was there from 2-4 on saturday with my family that's why I couldn't go with you
next time
oh by the way, I heard that the Enzo will be at Crystal Cove this weekend, Jan 10th from ferrarichat.com :)
hope to see you there

i heard the hsc is at the detroit show (assuming there is only one) which happens at the same time as the la show.
this happens every year. we never get to see the cool stuff.

There was no HSC when I went last Friday, I think all the cool cars are at the Detroit show. This morning, channel 5, 7 all did live reports from the detroit show, showing all the cool cars.

Gee, I wonder why they don't do the story from the LA show....,

did anyone check out the "fast and the furious" section on the lower level? my roommate went over the weekend and said it made the show worth it. ...and that's saying alot coming from him cuz he doesn't like riced out cars.

Went to the show today.

No HSC, an 04 yellow NSX was on display instead.
New maroon colored Corvette in the Chevy stands. Wasn't impressed.
Two cars from the "2 Fast 2 Furious": silver/blue Skyline & pink S2000.

Yeah, the cars down there weren't played out civics and such, but really nicely modified porsches, lamborghinis, even a maybach. Some of the H2's down there are over the edge... like the one with 25" rims...

The LA Auto Show always staggers new car showings. That has been the case for more than 10 years. Does that suck? Yep. But as PHEON$X pointed out above, we still have it much better than most of the rest of the country does.

I've been to the OC auto show a dozen times and it's terrible, in comparision. My dad and step mom live in Cave Creek, AZ so I've been to the Phoenix auot show a few times as well and its simply awful in comparison.

You take the good with the bad.

The thing that's starting to irk me are the higher prices, year over year, and the fact that there weren't any great exhibits this year. Nothing like Porsche's exhibit a few years ago when they rolled out all the historical street and race cars for the debut of the Boxster. That was an awesome display.

The show would be a disappointment without the Elise, C6, DB9, Ford GT, Bentley GT, revised Mustang from the ugly sin they had there last year, and the Quattroporte (yeah yeah I know).

I did get into the Ferrari/Maser area to sit and fiddle in the Quattroporte for a while and see the 612 (cough, hack) up close. In and out in 2 hours.

Sitting in the Quattroporte

Acura has had the NSX on the same platform in yellow for 2 years running now, correct?

All you had to do was ask politely and wait for a few minutes. A friend wore a MS/F1 racing jacket, we were all dressed nice, and they had us wait several minutes to keep the crowd thin (6-8 people). We spent what must have been 25 minutes there.

I didn't feel so bad about sneaking in - I was at the dealership several times looking for Quattroporte J.D. Powers test mules that were already long gone and for more info so we struck up more conversation now I could touch the car in the flesh.

The 612 is nicer than the 456, but its still a 2+2, awkward, and lacks the appeal of its brothers and sisters.

The Stradale was moved out one or two days prior (DAMN) and there was no Enzo this time.
