Koni? Bilstein? Tein? JIC?

I'm asking a very objective question, so please help me out only if you had compared these in person before... Preferably track use.

The Koni / Bilstein shocks + whatever springs I'll put on + installation could get almost the same as the Tein.

I know that Tein coilover is a good name, but of all the experience I had with my friend's ride, they all not up at my expectation, ( Well, I haven't driven one on the track but on street they are getting too bouncy to have a good control.)

For JIC, I heard they are going to be even stiffer than the Tein, and more expensive, so how much is the JIC coil over for the NSX?

For Spring choice, I'm leaning to something that close to the Type S Zero's sping rate...

How much adjusting has your friend done on the Tein's?
Does he have the standard springs?

what do you mean by standard spring?

The one I drove in Tein was a 95 Integra GSR, a 99 Si, and a 98 Impreza... It's probably me, but I would like some suspension that would work on some bumpy mountain road... like Jap. Touge.. yet, with a few twist (tuning), I can still have enough stiffness at the track.

I know for sure that Tein is up to the task at the later one, but I'm very disppointed when on street driving/ mountain road dashing...

Heck, my stock 91 not doing too good on that same mountain road either... anyways...

I have the type-r and everyone that has driven the car on the track likes them. Rather hard to find in the US, only four sets in the states but if you poke around you can find them in Japan. The street ride is stiff with no adjustment but they will kick butt on the track. Dan

What I mean is that the Tiens come standard with 10kg psrings in the front and 12kg in the rear. Many people have opted for optional springs in the rear. Springs are available in a variety of rates.

I think you ought to spend some time in an NSX with Tiens before you start calling them bouncy and "not up to my expectation." While I have only ridden in a Tien equiped NSX, I didn't feel any hint of "bouncy".

I think the Tein is very bouncy. It was bouncy on my NSX and the civic. Try real quality race shocks like Koni 30 series or 28 series, moton, penskes, JRZ or anything similar, and you'll see what I mean.

don't touch Advance design as well.

One thing I hate is driving a car with Tein at night. You can see the headlights bouncing up and down. It got worse if you soften the rebound as the spring now oscilating, instead of the rebound trying to dampen it.

Tein

Andrie,
if you don't like teins, what is your suspension set up? I have eibach and stock shocks and I'm not too happy with it, it is good for lowering your car and street driving but for the track I don't think it is the way to go, I want something more for the track what do you recommend. Should I just change out my stock shocks for Koni or Bilsteins? My first choice is Tein RA. Looking for advice.

You should also state (and ask) if people have the coupe or the NST-T. The difference is not as subtle as you might imagine due to the reduced rigidity of the T's IMO.

IOW - something that might be stiff but acceptable on a coupe might be very anoying in a T on the street - especially with the top off.

Another suspension you might want to concider are the NSX-Z shocks, springs, and sway bars for that OEM tuned experiance. Just bring $$$!

;)

No doubt, that is a consideration. But, hard to overlook the un-sprung weight reduction one would gain from the Tien setup. Tough choice in my eyes, or at least it was till yesterday.

well since some one metiond diffrence in models i have the tein ra on my 03 nsx t with dali sway bars and man does it handel ...i got a few sets of ra coilover kits in stock if anyone one to try them you more than welcome to put them on your car if you dont like them you will get full money back ..that how much i know i like them ..doesnt hurt to try right..or if your near me more than welcome to come for a test drive..:D

I use Comptech pro suspension, which utilize Koni 30 series shock (3012). Double adjustable, but the bump adjustment is a bit pain to do.

The cheapest way is to just get the off the shelf Koni shocks (yellow). Keep in mind, compare to the Tein, I would say the tein are better than the Koni yellow. However, no where close to even 30 series Koni. But they are not close in price either.

If you do get the Tein, make sure to get 10kg/mm springs for the rear kit. If you have sway bar to play with, I'll go with 8 kg/mm.

If you can get the type R suspension, go with that. I drove Dan's (tunapie) car at the track and really impressed by them. Great, and no adjustment to confuse you even more.

FWIW, I'm running the Koni yellow/Eibach setup and find it a bit soft. Brake dive is what really kills me. I'd go with the Tein if you're limited in money and the Comptech Pro if you're not. But it is almost possible to get a set of Moton's, JRZ, or a Penske shock setup with amount of money you'd pay for the Comptech setup. Certainly not knocking the Comptech Pro suspension, I'm sure it's awesome!
