Kind of a Rough Idle

I just bought a 92, and while its a great car, the only thing that seems a little unusual is that it idles a little roughly. It runs great, no problems there, but I figured it would idle alot more smoothly. It idles at around 800 rpm, and it just seems a little rough - like at nightime, I can see the lights from the headlights vibrating a tiny little bit on the car in front of me.

I've read some of the posts saying that there is a vibration at around 1500 rpm which is normal, so I was wondering if this rough idle is also normal?

I thought maybe it could be the oxygen sensors?

Re-centering the motor/mounts frequently helps with vibration complaints. Loosen the bolts that go through the front and rear motor mounts and rev the motor a few times, re-tighten the bolts. Its not hard to do but the front bolt is hard to get to.

Did mine and the amount of vibration I felt at idle was much less.

Im having the same problem but mine is still rough after it warms up. Also when im standing behind the car i can hear a back fire coming from the exhaust. I was thinking it might be the spark plugs. I just purchased the car a little more then a month ago.

Check the plugs. If one looks like it's not firing right and/or looks/smells like it has unburned fuel on it, check the coil attached that plug. If you need to repace the coil, be sure to also replace the plug. If a plug gets glazed by unburned fuel over time, it's shot. Let us know what happens. Good luck!

If you have unburnt fuel -- GET IT FIXED.

You will get "cylinder wash", where the fuel cleans all the oil, causes the rings to scrape away and fairly soon: no compression.

You will have a ruined cylinder.
