Keyless Entry programing

Thread needs to be moved to Electronics.

You have offered up a very vague question.

Do you wish to:
1. Interface this new remote with the existing keyless receiver? If so, you are in for a lot of work. Gonna take a lot of time and money.
2. You have a matching receiver for this remote and you want to interface exactly like the stock keyless unit? This might be very easy, depending on the receiver outputs (voltage and duration).
3. Bypass the Secuity Unit completely? This requires the least amount of new information, but more physical work because you have to do all the wiring yourself. This might be easier than #2, depending on the outputs.
4. Interface with the trunk release? Easy, but you will have to interface on the driver side of the car.
5. ??? Something else

Is it your intent to produce a PnP system for all the 91-92 that do not have keyless? If so, you will need to concentrate on options #1 or #2.

I suspect that the later stock keyless entry units can be easily retrofitted into earlier cars.

hmmm....I like to use it with the OEM keyless entry sytem. What you said there seems to make sense, but it is a different language to me

 You have offered up the same question twice now.

This is how the stock system works:
The Remote talks to the Keyless Entry Receiver.
The Receiver talks to the Security Unit
The Security Unit talks to the Door Lock control unit
The Door Lock Control unit talks to the actuators (that do the actual work of un/locking the doors).

Where did you want to interface???

Better yet: What do you have that you want to fit into the equation???

Here are some possible answers:
Just the remotes?
A matched remote+receiver? (if so, what are the outputs?)
If so, did you want to spend the time/effort to figure out how to talk to the Security Unit? (This would be good if you want to come up with a PnP kit for others....like WhiteNSX's most excellent HID kit. I recommend this, but you are going to have to sit down with a voltmeter and the manual for a couple of hours.)
If you don't want to spend the time with the security unit: you have your choice of talking to the door lock control unit or just roll your own relays and power the actuators yourself.

Once again, your answer went over my head. I just wanted to find out if I can make that remote control to work with my OEM keyless system. Anywho, I took it to the dealer and they that remote will not work with the car.

Thanks so much for the reply Drew.

You have to make it clear on how much time and resources you want to expend to making something work.

OF COURSE the remote will work, the Dealer is wrong. It will just take an awful lot of effort to make the remote work with your existing receiver. In this case: quite economically unviable.

However, if you want it easily, quickly and cheaply work: then the dealer is correct.

Now, they have things like this that will replace your remotes+receiver
http://www.autotechs.com/items/item291.htm
With some tinkering it should easily interface it with your Security Unit.

JCWhitney sells similar stuff too.

Good Luck

Sorry.. you do seem to get allot of BS instead of the answer you're looking for. For all practical purposes here is your answer:

No. That remote fob is incompatible with your OEM system. It will not work.

There.. that wasn't too hard was it?

Now, they have things like this that will replace your remotes+receiver

could you elaborate on what is involved with using this system?

I have not worked with sole aftermarket keyless entry systems. Usually they are part of an aftermarket alarm system, which I have done a few installs.

The aftermarket kit has a matched set of remotes + receiver. The receiver will send out a command (an electronic pulse) to the door locks. Similar to the OEM system, except it is NOT PnP.

Vaguely I remember the following:
The OEM keyless entry consists of a receiver that talks to the security unit. The Security Unit talks to the Door Lock Control Unit
Choices are: "Lock + arm Security Unit" or "UnLock + disarm Security Unit"

It should be fairly simple to wire up an aftermarket keyless entry unit with the stock security unit + door lock control unit.

The only thing that needs to be known is establishing how the Security Unit is armed or disarmed in response to a legitimate unlock/lock request by the keyless entry unit. Probably just have to sit down with a voltmeter (an o-scope would be ideal, but probably overkill).

I am pretty sure that a simultaneous lock+unlock request triggers the Panic mode.

Adding a remote trunk pop is easy too....just get a multi-channel keyless entry unit....and wire into the driver side of the car. All the Security Unit stuff is in the passenger side.

Allright, here is some more info:

door lock control unit is stacked directly under the Security Unit
The pinouts are located in the factory manual on 23-257.

Seems a rather straight forward and simple install. The first gotcha is that the expected inputs are 1V, so you have to use resistors cut the voltage down from 12V to 1V. (12k ohm, I would estimate).

The other gotcha is apeasing the Security Unit, which might be taken care of by properly interfacing with the Door Lock control unit.

I tend to use and install crimestopper products, just because I like them and they are local to me. They have a unit that would seem a natural to work with the OEM system....looks like there is a hundred or so for sale on ebay for at ~$40 [Search: crimestopper keyless]. They even made provision for the trunk release (CS-865RKE).

But there are many keyless entry units on the market, choose one that you like.

Somebody PM'd me and told me that a shop was willing to do it for $750. Ack! The whole thing should cost $75 plus a few hours for the FIRST one and $50 + one hour for every installed unit after that!

hi there... im not firmiliar to any of this but i have a basic question here....

I have a 95 nsx-t that has a factory security system. My car i would imagine at one time had keyless entry... but i do not have the remote.

Can i simply purchase a acura remote that is compatible and have it programmed??

Or should i buy a new alarm system that has ie remote start, and keyless entry. Anyone who knows thanks for the input.
Chris

I have that answer!!! go to your local dealer, and have it check if there is really an entry system. If there is, you can DIRECTLY order a set from the dealer which will take about a week :D as it will be programmed. But you will get the old square remote instead of the newer kind.

haha alright thanks poohbear!!

Heres another quick one... how much will this cost me? If its going to be a great amount, maybe its worth just getting an aftermarket alarm with remote start instead.
thanks!

I have that answer too...with 25% discount, I am guessing about $75.42 :D

i tried that, then the remotes didnt work, so then they said we need your receiver box to send in with the remotes. i did that, got everything back and still no worky!! they said something must be wrong with the alarm system on the car but it would cost $100/hr for them to stumble around and try to figure it all out. = probably 5-600 bucks for keyless remote with stock system. I think aftermarket is the way to go

Woody, the unit is made by Kenwood. I'll bet you can send it to them for refurbishment. They'll probably want your remotes and receiver, with any luck they'll still have a test jig laying around.

It is rare for any dealer to have a clue on what to do. They'll probably send it out to an independant shop anyways...they usually do. Especially for things that cannot be easily R&R'd.

Am I incorrect in assuming that I can get an aftermarket unit installed for < $300?

See post #10, this thread.

If you want a full blown super duper automation GPS enabled sensor vehicle overlord, then it will cost quite a bit more than $300.

im looking for a basic type viper alarm with keyless entry, a basic alarm system w.o gps, and a remote start. I very much believe i have seen these alarm kits for well under 300.
thanks
Chris
