Keyless Entry Problem

My keyless entry on my 1991 does not work. It did not work when I purchased the car in July. I replaced the batteries in the remote and the indicator light on the remote lights up when the button is pushed but nothing happens. Any tips on what to look for? Or where to start? Could it be the remote?

It could be the remote.

It could also be the batteries. The batteries can be strong enough to make the red light light up, but not strong enough to get the car to open. If the batteries are not fresh, try new ones. It's an easy thing to check.

Is this an OEM unit?? I did not think my remote had a light.

It is an OEM unit. The little green light worked on the remote before I changed the batteries and still lights up after I installed new batteries(2) Do you guys have the little light???

My remote(s) have a little light that flashes during use, but the color is red on mine, not green....

Does your security light on the top of the door come on within 15 sec. of closing and locking the door.

Check the 3 Amp. fuse for the keyless entry control unit, it is located behind the glove box taped to the harness.

Sorry , The light on the remote is red not green. My secruity light on the door does come on. Does that mean the fuse is ok? Thank you Guys this is very helpful.

The security light coming on just tells me that the security system is working and there is not a switch open that would keep you from locking the doors. Also the security system, door locks and trunk release get there power from fuse #35 and the keyless door lock control gets it power from 35 also but after going through a 3 Amp. in line fuse behind the glove box.

Clueless keyless

Finally got around to checking 3 amp fuse behind the glove box.
1) Remote entry does not work.
2) Installed new batteries in remote.
3) Security light on door comes on when locked with key.
4) Red lights flash on remote.
5) Keyless OEM module is connected correctly.
6) 3 Amp fuse behind glove box is OK.
7) Doors unlock and lock with button on door panels.
Should I try re-learning remote?
Is there anybody that can check the module?
