I managed to break my hatch release lever and am ordering another one for my 95. I am wondering if the key fitment is generic for each model or somehow this must be rekeyed to the specific key for the car.

AFAIK they are all the same.
There are evidently also versions of the handle with no lock; see this thread.
I actually ordered a replacement and was sent one without the locking mechanism. Will check again, but it did not seem as though it fits as the back design is different.
It appears the part number with the lock (in light tan) is 74884-SL0-A11ZB for a great price of $148
The one without lock is 74884-SL0-A01ZA which is a more reasonable $20

The "T" models have the lock to keep the roof secure in the engine bay

I thought they were key matched but I am not 100% sure. If they are, you probably can swap the tumbler into the new lever, assuming that is not the issue with yours. What is "broken" about your original one??
