Will any honda key blank work on the nsx or does it have to be a nsx specific key blank. Reason I am asking is I lost my keys somewhere and I only have the OEM Gold Metal Key left. I would like to get some copies made just in case. Nsx key blanks at the dealer are $20 for the plastic which are no longer available and the Monal metal key is $110. Just wanted to know if the other honda key blanks are the same and if they work ? I hope someone has done this and can confirm that the regular honda key blanks will work on a 91 nsx

Most locksmiths should have lower cost blanks and with your VIN and the registration and ID, having a new key cut shouldn't be very expensive.

I have no Acura dealer near me so I went to my local Honda dealer to get a duplicate key made. Along with the original key, they needed my registration and ID to verify I was the owner of the vehicle. They used an "H" logo blank, part number 35117-SM4-901. $30 + tax later I had my a perfectly functioning key to replace my old worn original one. This after trying a locksmith and hardware store who both could not make a copy (granted, based off the worn key) that worked on all locks on the car.

Since the only key you had left was a "worn" key then what you did was really the only option. They needed to look up your original key cut. However, now that you have a fresh cut key...order a couple Honda/Acura blanks off eBay ($5) and get your local locksmith/hardware store to cut you some spares ($1) so you never have to waste time at a dealership or pay their markup again.

For sure. I bought the $1 key from my hardware store, and they said I could come back to get it re-cut if it didn't work. I'm gonna do that since I have a fresh cut now and the hardware store key is almost identical to the original NSX key minus the red NSX logo (I believe it's an ILCO blank).

I use a $1 Walmart key; standard Honda/Acura. That only works with earlier models that don't have the anti theft chip.
My 02 TL has the chip but I've never looked for a replacement.
$1 or even $20 is a long way from the current crop of "push to start" electronic fobs. My wife's QX-60 replacement fob ended up costing $250+ when we lost one. $100 for the fob (non dealer) plus 150 to program. A total ripoff on the programming but needed to get it done.
