K&N cold air intake installation

Just ordered a K&N cold air intake for my 94 and was wondering about the installation. I have noticed in many of the pictures posted @ prime show some kind of piping that gets the intake in to the wheel well? This was not included in my kit.

What are my options for installation? What is the best way to go? thx!

Stick with the original air filter box? It was my understanding that switching to the round K&N would improve the air flow. If anything I was hoping that this would enable me to hear the v-tec kick in at high rpm?

IMHO I don't see much benefit with switching to a square K&N in the OEM airbox? (based on my experience with civic-si)

thx!

Return it, and keep your stock air box. You can add a K&N filter or a foam filter that fits in the stock box.

Good advice.

vancouver,
Do a quick search on this subject and you will find several very informative threads on this very subject.
FYI, if you only install the cone filter that attaches directly to the throttle body, what temp air to you think you are ingesting? Engine compartment=hot air !!! Kinda defeats the purpose of a cold air intake doesn't it?
The OEM box is attached to the snorkle that comes in thru the opening in the 1/4 panel. Therefore, it is getting cold air from there already.
Switching to a K&N or CT filter WILL allow you to hear the hissing and VTEC engage quite a bit more but will also be allowing more dirt and grime to be entering the engine also.
Good luck in your decision.

Do a search and you'll find numerous references to little to no advantage to this type of air filter on the NSX. The OEM air box is the most efficient intake, and it get's its air from outside the engine bay, as mentioned above.

get a GruppeM (there's one for sale in the classifieds) and live happy while enjoying the sound. The air temp in the engine bay has little to no effect on the intake temp as pointed out by nsxtasy (one of prime's gurus), and yes this was tested. :)

I dont know about the K&N filter,, add the spray on greese to help catch the dirt better??? I would rather go with the SOS Cantrel snorkel,, with factory air filter, just my 2cents

Differing intake Sound is the major result of these airbox replacement parts.

I would agree with that.

GruppeM is pretty much the best you can get.

This makes me wonder if there is some way to fashion a shield over the K&N kit pictured, to make it perform like the Gruppe M kit. Carbon fiber would be best, but not easy to accomplish. Ideas anyone? I don't know how the Gruppe M one mounts with the filter inside.

FWIW, on the Championship winning TSXes of Peter Cunningham's Realtime Racing Team, they use an OEM NSX airbox with a paper filter. Yes, an OEM NSX airbox. I offered PD my K&N but he politely refused.
