The 599, which will replace the the 575M Maranello in the automaker's lineup, boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 taken from the Enzo which cranks out 620 hp. The car will reportedly also be available with a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the automaker's sequential manual gearbox.

In LA Auto Show, there was a 1000hp 1.3mil super car by an Italian manufacturer (B..)forgot the name.
So 500 is only 50% there.

When you are looking at cars that cost anywhere from 450k and up does it really matter?..how many cars are going to be built and how many people you know are going to be in the market??....the new Miura is listed at 750k.....I think that if you got that kind of scratch and you like lambos you will buy one no matter what Ferrari is building....Hell you will prolly buy both so you can play road tag with your friends at 200mph...

At that level of power it really does not matter unless you track the car...the way I see it they are like street bikes..It does not matter if it's A GSR650 or a GSR1000...they are both so damn fast that there is really no use for that level of power on the street...

Bugatti Veyron?

It's 1001 hp... :D

And that's probably the highest you'll ever see.

I don't think a lawsuit would ever be won against a car maker for selling something that someone can't handle. If that were true, there would be no 1000cc motorcycles on the road.

$1.2 million.

Dunno, from the pics it looks like the bastard child of a G35 Coupe and a Lexus SC430.

Hopefully, this isn't the final production version. I loved the looks of the 550 and 575. This is a step backwards in my opinion.

im wondering where these horsepower wars will end?

Well, with gas prices on the brink of exploding upward...I would say sometime soon.

There was a horsepower war in the late 60's early 70's...then we all know what happened next....Mustang II

BTW- That is my new favorite Ferrari. Damn that thing is hot.

The new Z06 is not subject to the gas gussler tax because it can get 25mpg on the highway. I believe it has over 500 HP.

since when did Italy start copying GM??? Looks like an ugly vette with hidious rims:confused:

I'll take a 360 over that thing anyday....

Sorry but I dont believe that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron

"After the release of the car, it has become known that while each Veyron is being sold for £850,000, the production costs of the car are approximately £3 million to £4 million per vehicle. As Bugatti, and therefore Volkswagen, are making such a huge loss, it has been likened by influential journalist Jeremy Clarkson to Concorde; both are largely impractical experiments in technology and ground-breaking performance created just to prove that it could be done."

UK£ 3 million = 5.3016 million U.S. dollars

987 American horsepower,

1001 in european specs.

It's actually closer to 1050 bhp. Piech under rated the HP number to 1001 because that was the goal he said he would eclipse (1000hp) back in 2001 (according to Evo Magazine 086 titled "As good as it gets?", page 84)

here, there are very few law suits for silly things like getting killed in your car...
none actually.

and "here" is where real cars are made...

Lol...yeah, and my NSX can probably get over 30 on the hwy...but it doesn't.
:)

Just pointing out that all these hemi's etc etc aren't going to mean much if gas is $10/gal.
SUV sales are already dropping...sports cars come next.
