Hi everybody,

Just finished my first NSX valve adjustment following the guidelines of this site: http://www.danoland.com/nsxgarage/ (Thanks Dan!)

I would like to make a couple of comments about the job. Remove the engine cover. It makes getting to cylinder #1 much easier (but it's still a pain). Also, remove the black plastic covers to the left and right of the intake manifold. They are only held on by two screws each and by removing them, give you a bit more room to work.

I found that most of my valve clearance required very little adjustment. Most all were a bit loose.

I used the valve adjusting tools recommended by Acura and found them easy to use. I didn't try to adjust the valves using common hand tools but I'm pretty sure it could be done; however, by using the special tools, it's much easier to hold the screw adjustment in place while tightening the lock nut.

Hope this info helps you.

Do you know of another Green-Black roof NSX?? Please email me if you do.

According to the maintenance schedule in the Owner’s Manual, the valve clearance needs to be “inspected”. Those who regularly inspect their car's valve clearance know that the valves rarely need any significant adjustment.

every 30k miles?

Not necessarily. ’91 – ’95 (I think) equires inspection every 15k miles/12 months. Honda has extended the inspection time interval significantly on subsequent model releases. Anyone know the interval for the 2001?

I would say it will add another 20 minutes to the whole process based on what I've seen. Now changing out the starter motor would be another story.

Not too difficult. The entire shaft and pulley assy unbolts and slides off exposing the front head. I would say +15-20 minutes is accurate.

Cheers,

Well guys this will be a first for me on my nsx, and what a great site and i think will be very useful for this weekend task. Glad I have a honda tech for a good friend to help.. hehe

I would personally have them looked at yearly if you own a older one 91-94 with higher milage or every 16k miles... Sometimes you wont even have to adjust them, but checking is the important part.

The NSX service mat is a must have investment...
