!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rarely jump at online videos. This is one exception. Any information about those involved? It looks like an oldie(Oldsmobile advertisement) but still, I don't see anyone walking away from that one...

This was at the Atlanta Gran Prix. Apr. 30, 1995. Jeremy Dale was driving the camera car and Fabrizio Barbazza was in the yellow Ferrari 333sp. Both drivers were air-lifted to the hospital. Both survived but their carrers were over.

It's incredible that the tub of the Ferrari stayed intact. Even in 1995 they had pretty high safety standards for those prototypes. I'm sure that's what saved Dale's life.

It's a dangerous sport, there's no denying that.

Holy cow. I never would have guessed that the deadliest track was on home soil.

I was a bit surprised that it still trumped the 'ring. Then again, that's a really old track and and for a long time it was a bunch of cobbled-together open-wheel/open-cockpit cars driving really fast around a fast track surrounded by a concrete wall...

Then you bring downforce into the equation and the time it took folks to figure out that trying to counter-steer a slide was a bad idea (how bad of an idea? youtube "Gordon Smiley").

I'm curious which track has the highest rate of fatalities as opposed to just the total number, that might bring some younger circuits into the equation.

I ran across this one just the other day. It looked like an HPDE.

^^^^^ Turn 1 @ CMP. That's one of only really a couple of places where you don't have a whole bunch of run-off at that track.

an instructor was killed at cmp earlier this year when the car he was riding in went off and hit a tree, although not in turn 1.

incidently, i almost lost it in turn 12 at road atlanta this past weekend: <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/14895064" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0"></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/14895064">turn 12 oops</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user2869811">jason tower</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>

saw mark and maria from chin motorsports there too, in their nsx. as if i didn't miss my car already.
