There is no warranty as soon as you import the vehicle to Canada. And yes I'm in Saskatoon.

Have fun with RIV!!!!!!

Do you have any advise regarding the RIV? I have the bill of sale, the title is in our name and clear, and we have all the recall clearance. Everything is faxed to the boarder crossing. I also have an appointment booked for the provincial inspection, Day time runnig light install and the RIV inspection. Am I missing anything? I pick it up Aug 4 but will not cross the boarder until Aug 11.

I just brought my car over this week-end... I did everything you did. Where are you crossing over? Lewiston?

Check List:

- RIV (Faxed your clearance letter and call them to make sure its on file) Title in your name and cleared by RIV

- Fax your Title to US Customs 72 hrs they are only open Mon- Fri 8-4PM so if you plan to cross on the week-end (Aug 11th?) you'll have to wait till Mon morn. If you drive it stop in at US side before crossing, and make sure you have more than enough time to cross a few hours before 4PM line ups are sometimes long there.

- Once in Canadian side show your tilte pay your 6.1% then 6%GST (on entire amount) + RIV $200 Fee collect form 1 & 2.

- Once home get your federal safety (DRL, Child Anchor Bolt, SRS Visor stickers in French has a local sign shop make them up) done Canadian Tire, then normal safety and I believe emissions test... this is the step I'm at right now

Good luck...

Who do you fax this to? I know about faxing the title and the bill of sale to the US side but where and when do you fax the recall clearance to? The crossing that I'm coming thru is open 24/7.

You don't need to fax the recall clearance to anyone (it's been a while when I brought in my wife's TSX). You show this on the Canadian side when you pay 6.1% import duty and 6% GST. Just make a copy for yourself (you have to give the original to them ... I believe, along with the certificate of origin (if you have that).

Well according to the powers at hand I was told to fax it to release the inspection forms, and I did before trying to bring the car over the boarder... see http://www.riv.ca/english/html/recall_clearance.html

and also the check list they gave here http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html

Thanks,

I have sent probably more paperwork than I need to but I think I have all the bases covered. Now all I need is to pick the car up and bring it back. Thanks to all who helped.

Check with the border where you are crossing as it does make a difference as to whether you FAX or SUBMIT the original to them, and it's 72 hrs not incl. weekends. Only if there are multiple border crossings i.e. Buffalo has Fort Erie, Niagara Fall and Queenston - so for this reason they accept a fax, otherwise if there is only "ONE" crossing then you must submit the orignal title to them. I am an International Freight Forwarder and this is the rule - hate to see you come across and have to leave the car there for 3 days. Go online and get the number at the exact crossing - call them and ask them. This has nothing to do with Canada Customs.

Once your title is submitted and cleared it will be stamped by US Customs and when you bring the car across tell the customs officer that you need to go inside as you are exporting the car. They give you the stamped papers then you come across into Canada.

You then declare the car to Canada Customs and tell them you need to go inside to "import" it. If doing it yourself, you will need to fill out a B3 and Form 1, pay the GST and the RIV costs. You don't pay PST until such time as you register it in your name. You don't have to have all the conversions done to bring it in - but you will have to have it to pass the inspection and then be able to get the ownership changed.

The paperwork is easy and someone should be there to help. Have the bill of sale, your SIN, passport and if bringing it in for business reasons or it's a company car then have your business number - that's why your filling out a Form 1 so that you can now be the importer on record and to do this you need a business number even as a person.

Not a difficult thing to do, just takes some time but if you can go on line and fill out and get familiar with the forms (B3, Form 1) then it will go much faster.

Follow what they tell you here regarding the documentation to the US border.

http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/export/export_docs/vehicle_exports/72_hrs_before_personal.xml

And YES before you ask - you have to send the documentation to this location regardless of which border crossing you are going through. The Agency will forward the documentation on to the border point you specify.

Best of success.
Tim

PS I don't think you need to do the French SRS labels. I didn't have to on my Volvo that I just imported. The labels are only required on Air Bags that require "periodic maintenance".

I faxed them to the border crossing the other day but Ill also fax them to the number on the link you provided. It can't hurt to cover all the bases. Thanks Tim. I leave tommorrow to pick it up. Vacation for a week before coming back so I don't cross the border until the 11 Aug.

Well I'm back home with the car. All went well at the border. The car was everything they had told me it would be. The drive back was worth it.

Great to have met you. Enjoy your NSX!
