So...recruiters and family advised us to return to Canada next year so I've renewed my contract here in Dubai. Hey why not make hay while the sun shines... (I'm not gloating or anything but I'm very lucky to be where I'm at so I'll take it while I can).

The cons are not being able to drive my NSX (I haven't even seen it in person yet...LOL...Sorry Hal but she's at my father's all clean and covered up). The pros have been making a nice living in the UAE and being able to drive all sorts of vehicles. But now I've really gone over the deep end and bought myself this little VW Golf GTI. What a stunning little car! I LOVE IT.

I put on 250kms/day = 155 miles. In a month that equates to 6000 kms or 3700 miles of high speed highway driving (100mph + daily). I previously owned one of those Australian Holden Commodore V8 monsters and racked up a ton of mileage in the past year. It was time for a change and thought I'd continue with another one until a friend of mine convinced me to give either the R32 or GTI a whirl....glad I listened! With the long service intervals I'm not required to get the car in for monthly services and the fuel economy is great! Having 10 airbags, great sound system and comfortable interior I'm super chuffed.

I don't know if any other Primers have either car but man is it a blast to drive and that's with the DSG transmission (manuals are hardly ever sold in the UAE - don't ask). The creature comforts of the car are unreal and its quite solid and performs amazingly. I bought it for a steal from a guy moving back to Australia and with such little mileage and full service history. Its an 08 White 4-Door as pictured below with the traditional plaid interior.

Hehe...its not often a Primer posts that his new daily is a little hot hatch but oh well she does the trick and costs a fraction of what many other daily's cost.

2.0T? Get it chipped!
I had a VW Jetta 1.8T before my Mazdaspeed3. Loved the drive, the comfort, and the fit and finish. Hated the reliability though. . :frown:

a reflash will do wonders...

That's what I meant. . haha, when I had the 1.8T first tuning software offered was on a physical chip that had to be soldered on the ECU board. By the time I sold it, they figured out how to reflash it instead. . so much easier now. .

Sorry Hal but she's at my father's all clean and covered up.
so what you're saying is aside from location and license plates, nothing much has changed with your car ;)

congrats on the extension and on the new ride - good that you're having fun if you've gotta drive that far every day.

Not even license plates as I can't register the car until I'm a resident of Canada. Its purely insured for storage as a collectible at the moment. The new CCW wheels are at my fathers as well ready to be installed once I return.

shoot, by the time you return those new wheels will be old skool and the originals will be back in style (though not as crisp looking).

Crap! I should've taken your offer to store it at my house until you picked it up. Had I known I could've had it for this long..... haha
