Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to see if anybody can help confirm the part numbers for the jdm 5spd gear set. This is what I have and was wondering
what else I'll need to replace?

Thank you.

First off, if you're planning on buying all this gearset yourself piece-by-piece you will have a hell of a time, there are several gears that have been backordered for a long time. You're better off finding a vendor with the full gearset to sell you if you don't want to wait months or more.

When you ask what else you'll need to replace, are you rebuilding the transmission yourself or having a professional do it? Are you planning to replace bearings, synchros, and other worn items as well? There are standard wear items plus items that you might need to replace like hubs/sliders and other gears if those are damaged.

You can use https://honda.epc-data.com/nsx/e-na1/14741/ as a parts reference. It points to a first-gen JDM NA1 NSX so all transmission parts will be of the JDM gearset. If you want the NSX-R final drive the same website has an NSX-R parts list.

You can reference SoS as well https://www.scienceofspeed.com/inde...ons-gears-lsd/honda-5-spd-short-gear-kit.html.

The JDM gearset only changes gears 2-4 and the mainshaft. Parts ending in -A00, -A01, etc. are Acura/USDM specific, maybe EU as well.

The gear that makes the big difference is second gear. That is why 1995 and 1996 Nsx’s had the previous usdm gears but Honda changed second gear to the jdm ratio to offset the extra weight of the targa.

Yes, but the 95-96 Targa 2nd gear is actually in between the US and JDM. The JDM 5-speed 1-2-3 is nearly identical to the 6-speed 1-2-3.

2nd Gear Ratios
  • 91-94 US: 1.727
  • 95-96 US: 1.8
  • 91-96 JDM: 1.952

Honcho thanks for that clarification. I will add that the difference is very noticeable on a 1995. (Mrs SoCalx has a 1995). And it is very noticeable compared to my 1993. And I previously had a 1997 and 2005, so I have tried them all. Lol
