i just reinstalled all the guts into a new door just to find out that my "previously operational" window regulator seems to be dead. i took it out for a check, connected power and nothing. one of the guide wires is very tight while other is loose, one might think the assembly is stuck, i tried a little 'persuation' to no avail. is it "for sure" a burnt motor or is it possible for the assembly to be jammed? any cheap sources for motors?
thanks as usual.

It could be grounding problem. Check G401-G402, page 23-31 and 23-33 in the manual.
G401 is located by the fuse box under the dash and G402 is under the right kick panel.

Apply 12V directly to the 2-wire connector on the window motor. If it does nothing (no sound, no click, no movement), then the motor is dead. If it tries to move, clicks, or makes a sound like its trying to move, then something is stuck and preventing it from moving.

It doesn't matter which way you wire up the connector, one way is UP and the other way is DOWN. Try both.

And yes, as for the wires, one side is usually tight (under tention) while the other side is slightly loose.

hi guys,
after removal i did connect power to the connector directly without any effect. i thought it might be stuck but from your replies i figure it is dead.
can you point me to a source of replacement? the assembly is in great shape so i just need the motor.
go figure- it worked fine when i took it out of the old door, 2 days later its dead.

If you did happen to loosen any of the small screws of the motor housing itself or if the housing was loose (metal cap) it can be the motor is stuck due to a small metal ball being out of centre at the far back of the housing. In that case the motor is undamaged but is stuck and will not make any sound even if receiving current. Be careful not to burn it. But you need to carefully (!) - that small metal ball will want to dissappear where you don't want it - remove the housing and centre the small ball in place again so that the motor can run freely. Can be a little pita.
It would be too much of a coincidence if it died just now.

thanks guys,
i took the motor apart- the ball is in place, brushes look good. i will test it again.
thanks for replies as usual.
bram, check your pm.

enjoy your holidays!

still a "dead short". so basically all i need is a new rotor.
