Is uneven break pad wear normal?

Just pulled out my box of Carbotech Panther Plus pads because I'm going to Road America next Monday. The pads have been through two track events. While evaluating whether the pads have enough life left for a day at RA, I noticed that all four front pads have uneven wear. They are thicker on one side than the other. The difference isn't that great but it is noticable. Is this normal? Or do I have some sort of caliper alignment problem?

Pads should be fairly even wearing. This could be a sign of the calipers needing rebuilding. If one of the pistons are sticking, then the caliper does not return to center(the only way I can explain it) and one side wears more than the other. PM Dano or BarnMan(in members list) and ask about rebuilding calipers, which is not that big of a deal if you are mechanically inclined.

DanO has a diagram on his website here.

I consider this to be something that is strictly for the experienced do-it-yourselfer, not for beginners. If you're accustomed to changing your own brake pads, including greasing the sliding pins and cleaning out the slots that hold the pads, then this is the next thing you might want to consider tackling.

Thanks for the link. I'll probably tackle this after my day at the track. I noticed that my piston boots were a little crusty so its probably time for the overhaul. I've done this before with a 1988 911 and it wasn't that bad. Mostly a cleaning job.

Are you coming up from Chicago for the PCA-Milwaukee event at Road America?
