I have a 91 with 68,000 miles. It has had its 60,000 mile service. What should the voltometer read? It seems high to me, its at 15. Could this also be the problem Im having with my ac? The fan works on all settings, but tonight the fan was working at 1/2 speed. when i got out of the rehersal dinner everything was fine, then the ac started blowing cool not cold. i turned it off, then back on in 5 minutes and everything was fine. Thats when I noticed the volts at 15. I can change the alternator, but what should I do 1st?

Thanks,
Dean

No, that is not abnormally high. The A/C problem can be a number of things, and I would guess either low pressure in the system or the temp probe that keeps the evaporator from freezing could be going bad. Either way, it does not sound like the alternator, and you would get an idiot light in any case.

The alternator output should be between 13.7 and 14.5 v (@ > 1.5k rpm)which considering the accuracy and resolution of the guage, sounds like just about where you are at.

Any time the a/c warms a little with use then returms to normal after a few minutes rest its usually a sighn of increasing liquid side pressure. This is most commonly caused by inoperative condenser fans. I would check those fuses first.

The fuses are ok. I thought it might be the fuses at 1st, but both are ok. What would cause the fan to run at 1/2 speed? It has only happened once, but it is driving me crazy to know what it is. The alternator was tested and it is fine. Should I bring it in, or wait till it happens again?
