Ok, I have the car up on the hoist - 1st time. It's now ready for my fall cleaning (before storage). I know I've seen comments on here about how there is no undercoat - the underbody should be the same color as the car. Well im ok there - but the wheel wells were filthy. I thought it was really caked-on dirt. The more i scrape - the more it's looking like undercoat. In fact, im sure it is. What I'm wondering is if its "aftermarket". I guess Id like to have body color wheel wells but if it's a factory coating i'll leave it alone. Also, if its going to make the car noisy inside or forfiet some other benefit I might as well leave it. Any answers out there? What I'm really asking is - what was factory? Mine is a 95 w/ just about 50k on her.

There is black undercoating in the wheel wells and for about a 3 foot 'stripe' by the fuel tank on mine. There is no undercoating under the passenger compartment, hood, engine or trunk. HTH.

My 95 has it as well... Thought it was grime and started to lightly scrape but then figured it was too thick for grime and left it.
