Is it legal to reposition the front side marker lamps?

Hey all, appreciate any info I can get on this.

Right now my NSX is at the body shop getting a new paint job, and while it's in there I am trying to get all the little "wish I could" projects done.

I saw from Dali Racing that Mark now has mention of the Japanese front side marker lamps, the smaller protruding ones that go behind the front wheel well, nearer the side mirrors, instead of at the front of the car.

The body tech said that, for 4 hours per side, he could weld in an aluminum plate and finish the area where the current side markers are, and then could install the aftermarket ones when the paint work was complete.

Trying to see if anyone here knows if this would be illegal or not. Personally, I think that this location would be safer than the current location, as it is a) higher, and b) closer to the center of the car (the point of the lights in the first place).

Ideas? Opinions? I need to move fast, as in by tomorrow on this, would love any feedback.

I checked through the FAQ, got a post that gave a good example, but nothing that I saw considering the legality of this...

You can look up the part number on the Honda S2000, the marker used is similar, so you could pick it up locally. Alternatively, you could pickup a Marga Hills front fender set, and sell your OEM fenders.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

One thing I've learned - Any time you can avoid doing body work on a panel, avoid it. You're just asking for problems - with the finish, with the electrical, etc.

Those markers are there for your safety. The closer they are to the ends of your car, the more likely someone is to realize they're going to hit you when you've forgotten to turn on your headlights.

Personally, I wouldn't want my markers back by the mirrors.

Thanks, all, for the recommendations! I just got an email letting me know that the parts are in stock, if I do decide to go with this - although right now I am going back and forth...

Well, still have a few more hours to make my final decision - again, thanks all for the opinions.

Does anyone know if/where you can get the clear version of the front stock side markers? If you can get them I would just switch them out for clear instead of going through all the trouble of replacing or repositioning them. Just an opinion...

The product looks nice, however ....
I personally can't believe the price of $125 for pair, considering they are only ~ $40 apiece for brand new - additionally, you need to send your originals in for re-work with the associated "down" time.
Something wrong with their marketing - is it too much to ask that they provide their own initial donor core ($80 outlay on their part) to be able to provide an exchange service with a subsequent core charge? I actually offered to provide them with an additional core set to keep in exchange for a set of clears (I would provide 2 sets "cores") but they didn't even respond.
Other poor marketing issues: only checks or money orders - 10 days minimum to clear before proceeding with rework; no phone number - we don't typically acknowledge e-mails (!!!!!).
As nice as they are I can't justify purchasing with those issues.

You usually get a set of the stock ones for free when you buy the rest of the car.

IMO the problems with clear corners are that they are illegal to use on the streets; as such, you have a constant reason to get pulled over just for having them installed.

I remember an "import car meet" in Round Rock a few months back; there were 12 cruisers outside the meet, walking around each car that came in, writing tickets for clear corners, tail lights, aftermarket headlamps and foglamps, dark tint, etc. For the most part they were able to shut the show down.

I personally didn't want to give them a chance with me, which is why I wouldn't consider clear corner on an American car (from the pictures I will admit that clear looks great on a silver car, though, IMO).
