Is HID conversion a dead-end upgrade?

With the NITSA ban on HID retrofit kits, will this lead to HID bulbs with 9006 bases becoming unavailable? If one today buys a HID kit for their NSX and several years later one of the bulbs prematurely fails, will replacement parts be availble with the 9006-type base? I would think not!

In that case, can the D2 style bulbs (like those used on real HID projectors) be modified to fit into one of these kits by the end user or does this require professional manufacture?

Are all these people rushing to buy an HID retrofit while they still can buying a dead-end-system that they may have to revert back to halogen when a part fails? I don't think I'd want to buy one if that's the case.

Any thoughts?

also some company will be required t provide you with a a replacement parts as warranty. i think this only apply to those who bought it before the BAN is in affect.

catz is one of the good one that will give warranty

I don't think its a dead end. Parts should still be available overseas for a long time, and laws can change.

I still want the SOS HID Kit for my car and was bummed when I missed out on the final buy. :(

I'll confirm that it is becoming difficult to get replacement parts for HID kits...I just tried to order an H4 7500K replacement bulb for my Civic and they're "on back-order for a month" according to SPW. If anyone knows where there is one availibe please PM or email me at [email protected], Thanks--Nick

Well its kinda dead-end subject now that you can't get anyone in the US to sell you an HID conversion kits unless you have connections. There is a hefty fine imposed on retailers caught selling AM kits.

Not really. I have been able to locate a several retailers still willing to sell them.
(confirmed via e-mail exchange with the company).
