Introducing Affinity Aerodynamics, your source for Hardcore NSX Aerodynamic Performance
Hey everyone, this is Cody Loveland, owner of LoveFab, Inc, NSX specialist since 2005.
I began working with aerodynamic components on NSX's in 2007, and have continued to experiment and nurture my aerodynamics knowledge over the past 8 years. Our 2012 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb Podium was a direct result of the aerodynamics and extreme downforce, and I haven't stopped there. Aerodynamics has been one of those things that just nags at the back of my head, constantly provoking thoughts and solutions.
We began working on the first production pieces for the NSX in late 2014, and have since created a second company to handle all of the “aero” components, Affinity Aerodynamics, LLC.
We have been hard at work over the past six weeks building and designing new products, which are to be outlined below. The first order of business was to design a cost-effective and simple front splitter for the NSX that was easily removable, and that would “shear” for when the driver ran out of talent and found the inevitable sand trap.
Enter the Affinity Aero TA72 NSX Front splitter.
With its unique mounting solution, the splitter can be installed and removed in seconds - with zero tools - yet is strong enough to withstand 160+mph, as well as a grown man standing/hanging from the splitter.
Should the unfortunate occur and the splitter need replacing, it’s hardly more costly than the average JDM “chin” spoiler that isn’t nearly as effective. The TA72 splitter effectively seals off the underside of the hood area, which smooths airflow to the flat portion of the NSX underbody, and helps to direct air to the rear of the car. The lip protrusion directs high pressure air over the top of the car, which helps to promoted “downforce”. The test car, a 2005 NSX with KW V3 suspension(345in/lb springs) and a relatively tall 215/40/17 tires would routinely scrape the fender lines(superficially, nothing serious or harmfull) at extreme turning or braking while on the track, prior to the TA72 splitter installation. At a sustained 100mph with the Affinity Aero TA72 splitter installed, the tires constantly rub. In other words, the chassis is being compressed by about two inches due to the additional downforce. When the roads clear, we will setup a proper test to get concrete downforce results.
We are setting a retail price for the Affinity Aero TA72 Splitter at $799.99 for the budget Alumalite version.
**NA1 and NA2(02+) contours are both available, as well as the PP72 splitter, which features a more aggressive contour, resulting in more downforce, as well as additional canard support for the trackrats and racecar guys.
*We will have carbon fiber capped versions(+$300), as well as full-carbon versions available (Cost, TBA). Inquire for details, and this will only be organized when a certain quantity is reached, warranting enough interest to offset the mould costs.
Next on the list was a proper diffuser.
The Affinity Aero TA74 NSX Rear Diffuser
The TA74 Rear Diffuser was born from a combination of experience and lack of suitable diffusers currently available. The TA74 rear diffuser differs from others in that it’s fully customizable when ordering; such as protruding rear-edge length, factory valence, no valence, spats, no spats, etc. Vertical panels extend up under the chassis to help isolate, and direct underbody airflow rearward, out the back of the car with and without the spats.
The model tested and pictured here, is the TA74 without the factory valence. Limited testing has shown great attachment, even at speeds as low as 30mph. The car has undergone further work with LoveFab, Inc. and will resume testing in a few weeks, as the road conditions permit.
We are setting the retail price at $999.99, and $299.99 for the side spats.
*Carbon options available(Cost TBA). Inquire for details, and this will only be organized when a certain quantity is reached, warranting enough interest to offset the mould costs.
The next product that we found missing from the NSX market is a proper rear wing.
Coming soon! The Affinity Aero TA Series Carbon Fiber Rear Wing
We have experience with large wings, and have driven cars with them installed. The complete PLANTED effect that wings offer is astounding. Wet-testing the 2012 NSX result in marginal differences between wet and dry lap times. We have carried on our knowledge learned from the Pikes Peak program, and designed a wing suitable for the most extreme NSX’s on the planet. With up to a 78” width and a 17” chord depth, this will be the largest wing available for the NSX. CNC Aluminum wing pads and vertical mounts are being perfected, as well as the wing elements themselves. Pricing is looking to be about $2199.99 for the airfoil, and $399.99 for the wing mounts. We have just completed the mould this morning, and will pop our first parts from it before the weekend, so stay tuned!
*Double and triple elements will also be options in the coming weeks. Please note, the downforce generated from the multi-element wings will exceed the sheet metal of the factory trunk lid and will require direct-chassis mounting. This is available in-house only, as of now.
We are just getting started at Affinity Aero. We have full underbody panels, with integrated side skirts in the works, as well as additional carbon goodies for the NSX, such as Canards, and possibly doors and door panels should there be interest in such a thing. So, stay tuned!
