So my dad owns an automatic yellow 2004 nsx. Ive been looking to get him some aftermarket parts for it. I wanted to put in an intake and some kind of chip. He also wants to do some things with the interior. Im not done searchin the forums yet but to get the questions out there... what intakes have you guys had good experiences with and what chips are out there for the nsx. I have a superchip on my car, it ups the rev limiter, deletes torgue reduction, unlocks its potential a bit, thats kinda what im lookin at. Im not lookin to spend a thousand bucks moding his car for him, but i want to get him a few basic things and maybe get him hooked.

*Edit* im looking at this for the intake. Cantrell AIS & Uni Dual-Stage Foam Filter

high-performance driver's training?

Intake options:

Cantrell Concepts Airflow Induction System...

Downforce Scoop...

Being a 2004 model (OBDII NA2 power/drivetrain), I'm not aware of any chips that would work w/ such.

Goodluck

The best first mod in my opinion are the Schroth 4 point racing harnesses and a harness bar. They look cool, are comfortable and will really make you a better driver.
I absolutely agree! They were one of my fav' mods' for my NSX.

Your dad's automatic is a 3.0L de-tuned engine producing 252HP. That engine isn't really being bottlenecked much and it's bolt-on potential is much lower than a standard 3.2L 290HP engine.

The first thing not to buy is an intake. The stock airbox and filter is the best intake available for the NSX, particularly the 3.0L auto engine. You're going to be looking long and hard for a reliable chip that does anything for the 3.0L auto engine. 9/10 chips for the NSX do virtually nothing. Honda tuned the NSX near perfect from the factory.

Remember, the ECU and cams are totally different on the auto 3.0L. Exhaust and/or headers will add very little power to the car as the OEM setup flows very freely with the auto 3.0L.

If you're looking to unlock "potential" the NSX, particularly the automatic version, the NSX is the wrong car. It's not a Supra. A $300 chip or $700 boost controller won't get you 50HP.

There are ways to convert the 3.0L into the manual specs but again, it invloves a new ECU, cams and tuning. And you'll only get an additional 18HP.

i just put the cantrell with the uni on my car (91 5sp), and i can't tell much of a difference in anything - throttle response or sound. i say stick with stock - you're better off. as for anything else you wanna do for cheap? good luck doing much to the engine for less than a grand. i say buy the NSX-R chassis reinforcement bars; they're cheap and make a noticeable difference in an already good handling car.

Agreed. I would invest in suspension mods like Bilstein shocks/Zanardi springs and the Type-R sway/chassis bars before engine bolt-ons. The 3.0L auto engine is just a really poor platform to work with.

All the above mentioned parts should cost less than $1,200 if you look and will completely change how the car handles.

Well, i guess a bit dissapointing, but it is a sick car hands down anywho. Bummer that they had to go off and put in such great stock parts eh? How have people fared with sticking a turbo/supercharger on. I suggested it and ran the guestimated price of 5-7k. Hes down with the idea, I just need to do more research before I go to him with a plan of anykind :). Im gonna search the forums a bit cause im sure most of my questions have been answered already, but thanks for the input.

I like the racing harness alot and might stick it in my Charger after a few more projects, (getting the wiring done for my e-cutouts tomorow, straight pipes at the flip of a switch  ).

edit *well looks like turbo is out, discontinued?*

Forced induction won't be cheap. First you'll need to upgrade to the 3.0L 270HP specs. No less than $1,500. Then the supporting mods like headers and exhaust will run you no less than $2,000. A low-boost s/c like CT or the Dali Boostzilla will be no less than $5,500-$7,500. Figure another $1,000 for install/tuning.

Not to mention I don't know of any auto trannies with FI. I'm not sure if the tranny can handle 325+ rwhp.

The NSX C30/C32 block is just not the best platform for modifying. You've got to pay to play. It's not a Supra. The NSX is one of the worst values for HP per dollar.

It's a good idea to check out the SOS web site:
www.scienceofspeed.com

Dali Racing also got ton's of stuff:
www.daliracing.com

Plus Ritmo makes a great air intake system but you will need to get that from Japan
http://www.ritmo-1971.com/ramair.html (you can get a translation via Google)
it costs 50,000Yen that's $414USD it also replaces the scoop

Plus they also make a kit to give a Auto a Manual shift feel (You can set the shift point)
