Internal door lock buttons

I noticed that my passenger side lock button (at window level) was a little lower than usual (with the door unlocked). I cycled it once. Then gently touched it; It disappeared down the hole!! I guess the door trim has to come off to retrieve it. Any special cautions? Is this a common fault? I didn't find any mention on the site. The car is a low mileage 1999 model in Australia.

If you still have it under warranty, take it to the dealer. Otherwise, be careful when taking the door panel off due to the plastic tabs that may get caught on the weather stripping around the door. It only takes about 15 minutes to take apart the inner door panel. Th first time is the hardest, but then it get's easier when repeating the process. Take your time and read the directions FIRST! (It is also handy to have an electric screwdriver)
