Well, this morning, while cruising along the highway, I had 2 state troopers pull me over. One was super nice, the other a super ass. The ass got out WITH his tint meter in hand, and walked right up to my window and did the test. 5% is what it came back too. He made a smart ass comment about that, and my TV as well. He turned, went straight back to his car, and sat down at the laptop and started running my plate. About 30 seconds go by, and he comes STORMING outta his car, walked right up to me and the other trooper, to whom I was answering the usual NSX related questions for, and blurts out, YOU SWITCHED YOUR PLATE, who's car is this. I told him it was mine, and that plate was registered to this car. "Well, it comes back registered to some sorta Acura, and this car is CLEARLY a Honda. (For those of you who don't know, i've 100% hondafied my car, air bag included). I attempted to explain to him what the deal was, but he interrupted and told me he was having me towed. I handed him the keys and told him, "Please do, but make sure you show up on the court date you assign me, and be prepared to be embarassed". With that, he walked back to his car, called his supervisor who showed up a few moments later. He took his supervisor around the car pointing out all the H's and HONDA on the motor and door sills, then they both walked away. The supervisor leaned over and told him something, laughed, got in HIS car, and left. Mr Troopers attitude changed 180 degrees, as it was now obvious just how ignorant he appeared. He tore up the tickets, because he felt so dumb. From there, I had to give them both the usual tour, explanation of Honda/Acura, etc etc etc, and one of them asked if he could go for a ride if he stopped by my shop one day. I kinda really wished, in a way, that I had gotten some sort of citation for his accusation. I just love winning in court.

I would say that the trooper handled himself quite well in the end. It sounds like he had enough strength to swallow his police pride and forget about the tint and speeding (?)tickets.

That is one of the better police stories I've heard. Wish you heard what the supervisor whispered in his ear though!

Now thats a great story!
As a recent owner I am a bit worrisome for my sides and rear are ~ 5% as well (Ohio max I believe to be 50%)

Does anyone know if peeling off rear tint will cause rear defrost lines to come with it?

Thanks

I wouldn't try it yourself. I had another car that had the same problem. I took it to a tinting place to see if they could remove it. They actually said they had to take the rear window off the car, then send it to a glass repair shop to properly remove it

I don't know.

Remember, some of those lines are for the radio antenna, not the rear defroster.

That was an absolutely great story. =) It should be recorded in the NSX Prime annals or something. hehe!

Yes it will I ruined the defrost in my rear window on my porsche trying to remove the after market tint.

Being a 16 year old, I find that cops never give me the benifit of the doubt. Needless to say though, I am really amazed to see that a cop was actaully able to do that, swalling his pride and all. Great story!

Im glad to walk away from any ticket and in the event that i can make friends with more people on the job ... i also do so in hopes of adding more PBA card to my collection.

In my year and a half of NSX ownership, and being stopped an average of 3x monthly, I must say that the NSX is a flashy enough car that with the right words, its very easy to change the subject of a traffic stop. I have been 99% successful in getting out of tickets because of the car. It helps that I keep it immaculate everywhere I go. Having no engine cover is the #1 feature that always raises questions by the police. It never fails... its just too irresistable for them to ask at least 1 question.. "What kinda motor is that... What size... how fast... etc". From there, with a little practice, its extremely easy to get their mind off of what they stopped you for. Does anyone else have these same sort of experiences?

yup....

its called "walking with determination" and "dazzle em with kindness" and "baffle them with bullshit"

i find doing the same steps helps get outta tickets, esp at night...

1.) hit hazards
2.) pull off main road, pref. gas station, or parking lot (try to find a well lit area) (by law, at least in GA you reserve the right to make yourself safe. ie, you can wait till next exit and gas station as opposed to side of highway at 3 am. just make sure you got those hazards on to acknowledge the cop)
3.) turn interior lights on
4.) roll all windows down
5.) turn car off
6.) keys on dash
7.) hands on steering wheel
8.) await office to great you at your door...

and always tell the office what you are going to do and why, (ie liense and insurance in glove box, or that your wallet is in your back pocket)

and watch the yes sir/mam's, and no sir/mam's

course this may not matter to you older, and wiser ppl, but this has helped me everytime, and im a "19 yearold punk" but much respect for cars...

Thanks all for the tint tips.

Hey NSXnBRLA you've given me a few things to think about w/re: to the engine cover that is. For instance, BBMB SC or Comptech SC or maybe a MMBM w/o an engine cover.
Hhhhmmm this ul be a tuffy

I must have read that story 4 or 5 times now
Anyone think it should be sent it to Yates @ C&D?

Kodiac do you have to turn the car off or can you leave it running if it is a turbo?
It wouldn't make sense to ruin the turbo just because you are pullled over by the police.
