I read that too but I didn't and I'm guessing that most who changed over to a cone intake didn't either. Just change it listen to the new growl it makes!
There is no light source in the engine compartment that would drain the battery if the hatch is left open. The only thing that with uses any amperage is the red L.E.D. light on the dash that would indicate the glass hatch is open. And that would only be illuminated if the ignition is turned on.
