A friend hit a deer on 280 N in her Honda Pilot Sunday. After investigating the damages, the repair cost is $12,000. However, Geico states that they will pay for aftermarket parts. Only time they will cover OEM is if another vehicle is involved or something like that?

Is this true for all insurance ?

I have heard of insurance companies replacing with aftermarket parts. I am surprise to hear it from a large well known insurance company. That's why I have State Farm. State Farm replacements are OEM. I had road debris damaged my car before (no other cars involved), and State Farm replaced the part with an OEM part.

You might want to review the California Car Insurance Bill Of Rights.

Take the car to ANY shop you wish -- tell them to repair it -- THEN call the insurance company.

A friend of mine just had is Acura MDX rear ended. The insurance company would not pay for a new OEM exhaust, only an aftermarket part. He fought it and lost. Car insurance is not replacment insurance, like your home but equivilant only. He had to pay $300.00 to upgrade to a Honda OEM Exhaust. Seems wrong considering the car was parked when hit. no fault of his.
