Hey guys,
I will be going to the states to pick up an NSX I just bought, but I am having problems with insurance.

I called my insurance company and they told me that they cant insured a car that is not register in canada??!! the I called another company and I was told the same!!

When I called and insurance company in the at the city where I am picking up the car, they told me that will not insured the car for less than six months.

How did you guys get insurance?
Help please...

Thanks,
-MSR

Never had a problem. Imported 7 cars (ironically all of them in the past decade minus the NSX) and simply called my insurance company, gave them the VIN, and voila.

Where are you located.
In Alberta we have private insurance. (NOT PROVINCIAL RUN)

My sister used to sell insurance. You can insure anything. Even stuff you do not own! VIN and price paid should be all you require.

It most be an ontario thing, they wont insured the car untill is in Canada.
The seller/dealer is trying to find a way with his insurance company.
This is the most retarded thing I have ever heard .
Any help will be aprecciated big time.

A good Ins company would provide insurance, in order for you to drive the car back to Canada. This all depends on your relationship with them.

I deal with Personnel Insurance (they only deal with Large companies)they have a retail division you can give them a try, I don't recall there name.

If nobody in Ontario is willing to insure it for you, get it insured in the US and when you finally register it and get everything sorted out, insure it in Canada and cancel the insurance in the US. Just make sure you do a monthly payment plan so you don't have to pay the full amount and have to wait for a refund.

Once you cancel insurance, they can't charge you for the rest of the year. In fact, they should even retro refund the portion of the month that you didn't use.

Geico has pretty good rates in the US.

Thank you guys,
My insurance company has finally come around, they said they didnt understand first time around.(they did).

Anyways I am driving down to the states on the weekend to pick it up, for the Canadian guys, did you guys tell customs in your way out you were buying a car, to bring back into canada?

Thanks,

-MSR

they will hold the car for 72 hrs.

I read it as going out of Canada. All depends on when you have taken care of the paperwork with the US Border Agency. If you have already done that, then you could return with your car from a storage lot on the US side in a matter of minutes after telling the agent in Canada you were importing a car to bring back.
