Insurance and rear seats

I was reading a review of the new P911/P996 cars the other day (Chicago Trib Sunday) and they mentioned that the small-ish rear seats they supply, technically making the car a 2+2, are there mainly to avoid the insurance premium on 2-seater cars.

Is this true? Do comparable cars cost more to insure because they have 2 seats versus 4 ?

I doubt it. They calculate premiums based on actual experience with claims.

Also, the NSX generally costs less to insure than comparable cars.

Unless you believe that there is no car comparable to an NSX.

I can't believe how inexpensive the NSX is to insure. My brand new C5 was almost double!
I'd bet Vipers are up there too. Two cars that newbie owners crash a bit too often.

I'll bet my NSX is less due to it's value at 30K vs. 40K for the vette. I guess a new 90K NSX would be more.

I think it may be possible around the world... here an NSX insurance costs more than a 911 ones even with a similar car value. We do not use claims to determine the insurance price but very complicated formulas involving cost, age, cost of new parts, safety, ... and maybe even the 2 vs 4 seats!
