I will be installing new headers on my 92 and have heard that removing the inerds of my cats will help. Has anyone done this and does it help or hurt?

Installing headers, exhaust and intake will make a difference in weight and hp gain. Especially on NA1's so it is a must do for the car. Good luck.

If you are just doing headers and nothing else then thats a different story.

From what people say..if you are NA..not worth to do for 1 HP gain if any...if you are forced fed...it makes the gas pedal feel lighter, rev better and the exhaust is less restricted which was in my other car - turbo civic..owned years ago!

I wanna gut my cats too since mine has a CTSC..anyone know the best way to do it?

I have H/I/E and the cats gutted. I love the sound. it dose leave a residue on the valance but it is not hard to clean. My car is black so it is not noticeable even after long drives and due to the color im always washing and waxing. The reason I gutted the cats is because when removing them for the header and exhaust install one of the cats were broken up in the in the inside when I inspected them so instead of buying a new one or having that crap rattle around in the exhaust I removed the insides of both cats. The cats are pricey so if your cats are good buy test pipes if you wont the sound. My car is a 92 so in NY I don’t have to pass emission tests.

Good respirator mask - hole saw and cordless drill something to push the guts threw the cats. A screw driver is what I used. Don’t do this in your garage the cat material is toxic out side in a well ventilated area!**Ware a respirator!!**

If you will ever have to do an emission test I would just buy some test pipes and put your cats on the shelf in the garage. The car will not pass an emission test without the cats. Catalitic converters are very expensive to replace.

If you don't want them advertise and find someone that will buy the test pipes and trade you. The test pipes will get rid of a lot of weight too.

Don't destroy them you will be sorry down the road, unless the car will not pass an emission test, then go for it.

Sounds like good advice. Thanks, Alan

Im actually pulling out my test pipes in about 2 weeks when i have my headers installed along with the hi flow cats. MAted with my JGTC ceneter exit, the test pipes are way too loud for my blood. Let me know if you are interested. I believe they are Taitec testies with bungs for O2 sensors of which i have plugged up. My car is also a 1992 so pm me if you are interested and can wait.

Thanks, I'll let you know.
