Hey guys,

I recently picked up my '95 NSX which had modified BBS rims. As much as I love my car in every other aspect, I've finally decided I'm not a big fan of the rims, and would like to swap to another set.

I've searched through many of the "rims" discussions here, and have narrowed my choice down to either:

(1) the Yokohama Advan AVS Model 7's, or
(2) the Konig Tantrums.

To me they look very similar, and just wanted to ask if you guys have any opinions on which one is better/worse and why. There are a few pics in the archives with AVS rims on cars, but all the links I tried to click to see installed Tantrums were dead.

Could somebody therefore please post links if they have installed Tantrums. Would be picking up 17/18's.

Obviously, if anybody has a pair of either for sale...

Thanks much.

Vik.

AVS is a sub division of Yokohama the tire company. They produce high quality cast rims. Konig is a small company that copies other popular wheels and sell them at a discount price. You can make up your own mind about which one is better.

if you think I'm selling my go-fast parts to go back to stock, you are way wrong my friend ;)

Hi Vik,

The problem with copy rims, like Konig, are their target market mostly for civic and similar cars. Thus the widest/size and the fitments wheels they make are optimize for those cars.

That being said, wheels fitments are not exactly rocket science. Some of their wheels will fit the NSX just fine.

One concern, are the size. some people, like me, would only modify to make it perform better (arguably). With their 8.5" available width on the NSX, that really don't make any improvement in tire size. They do make improvement in track width with different offset.

However, different people have different priority. For show purposes, I think they work fine and looks good.

I agree with Andrie 100%, however for daily driving I have a set of Konig Tantrums on my NSX and really do like the look -

You can see them in my Avatar, unfortunately my FTP site is currently down to show you a better pic with the Konig's on the car.

Just out of curiosity jonathan what size tantrum's are you running and are there any problems with rubbing....someone told me konig rims arent very forgiving when it comes to pot holes.

Do they weigh about the same, though?

Running 19/18 combination with about a 45 offset all the way around, I get some very minor rubbing when at the extremes of a slow turn (wheel cranked), no other problems to speak of to date.

THey both look good, but its right about the Konigs...youre dealing with an NSX, might as well go with the original stuff...just like the Konig Monsoon vs. the VOlk AV3, MHT Quan vs. a BLitz03 and so on...I'm a rim guy and have to go with the original...

The Tantrums are definitely heavier than the Advan 7's. And, as pointed out, they aren't made in sizes (widths) that are particularly suited to the NSX. I run 17x8 / 18x10 Advan's by the way.

There are some minor differences in looks as well, but nothing I'd make much of a fuss over. Similarly, for those it matters to, you'll see plenty of Tantrum's on Civics and other low-end Honda's but rarely Advan's, and I've hit several people who definitely appreciated that I had gone the Advan route.

You have to decide what's most important for you. If it's just about upgrading the looks, and you want to keep the costs low, you could go with Tantrums. Otherwise, Advans are lighter, wider, stronger, and will have more appreciative on-lookers, but they are obviously more expensive.
