On the NSX, all wheel wells have inner plastic fenders which are attached which studs to the rest of the chassis.
On the front wheels, the inner fenders consist of two pieces. The plastic fender itself and a separate part which covers the openings of the airconditioning units in front of the wheels.
On my left front side, I have damaged this plastic airco fender part and now it's hanging loose. Because it has come in contact with the wheel while driving, part of it is melted.

I was thinking of just removing it alltogether but am wondering if this might have any negative effect.
Would like to know if anyone has done the same thing and what their experiences are.

It stops any rocks from being whipped up into components that that can be damaged or dented - I would advise to replace it with a new one. They're not that expensive - only ~ $60 (discounted) over here anyway.

I agree on the replacement.

The cover keeps road debris from getting into the air conditioning condensor coil and fan assembly. It could also keep a rock from being thrown into the condensor coil and possibly puncturing the coil. Now that would be expensive.

If you do get a new one be sure to check that the louvers do not have a lot of extra material left over from the mold in the openings. If so, take an X-acto knife, or other small razor knife, and carefull trim out the excess. This will allow full air flow through the condensor coil assembly. You may want to check the other side also.

If your car has the original inner fender liner fasteners it will have the type of that has a round center piece. All you have to do to remove them is just PUSH in on the center piece, with a small punch, and the fastener will release. Remove the fastener and then reset the center pin to the outside prior to reinstallation. After you remove one you will see how they work. Another nicely engineered part from Honda.
