1300bhp from a 1,5liter 4 cylinder engine, and that 30 years ago. Pretty impressive i think.

Not So Impressive Engineering

MY math says 30 years ago was 1975. The engine pictured powered the Brabham BT52 of 1983. Further, the power you quote is absolute best case, with unusually high boost levels and special fuel for qualifying only. These engines had a lifespan of less then 10 miles in this condition. Normal racing power (to last 200 miles) was more like half of what you quote.

A more impressive engine is the Honda RA-168 pictured. This engine in a McLaren chassis won 15 of 16 races in 1988. And it would have won them all if Ayrton hadn't tripped over Joe Schlesser at the Monza chicane.

No shit Sherlock? 2005-30.... holy ...

Unusually high boost. Hm .. so 4 bar + is usual?

The highest HP rating for race trim was RA167E, which was Honda's 1987 F1 Engine: 1.5 liter V6 TT, it had 1000hp during race, and up to 1500hp during qualifying. BMW, well, they sucked.... However, all those numbers were find an dandy, what made the Honda engine awesome was their ability to finish the race in one tank of gas even at the hp rating. Tag Porsche V6 Turbo couldn't finish some of the races, driver Alain prost had to get out and push his car to the finish line...lol

Re: Not So Impressive Engineering

IIRC, that specific BMW F1 engine (1300hp) was in qualifying trim and was to last 3 laps total. One out lap, one flying, and one cool down. So yeah, about 10 miles +/-.

I always thought the good thing about the RA167E was its driveability. Not just its high hp peak level.

Damn, YOu guys know a lot!!

are there any F1 professionals in this forum?

Sorry please explain what exactly I should watch at at my language.. I dont get it.

please allow me to butt in and say something

in my humble experience in the world of NSXPRIME forum posting and overall interent chatting, I have deviced that in such situations as this, the best thing to do, is just walk away from it,

DO NOT, I repeat , DO NOT, go further on this subject if you don't want to end up in a flame war,

Beleive me, the only way to enjoy posting in forums is to be passive, and it is really really easy to misunderstand someone on forum postings,

So just smile and post on:biggrin:

Was schnallst du nicht?
