Hello all,
Reveiwing my options for buying a 98 California NSX and driving it back to Canada. I've noticed a few posts on importing from the States...has anyone done this into Alberta? I'm trying to get a firm idea of import cost.

Also does anyone have info on NSX service in Calgary?

Thanks for any assistance.
John

There is no 'import cost' as such. You just convert the cost of the car to C$ then add 6.1% duty then add 7% GST. Oh, and you also have to pay the Federal Gov'ts Registry of Imported Vehicles ( http://www.riv.ca/ )about $200 for doing the paperwork and inspection. You'll also have to buy/install something that will pass for daytime running lights .. and an anchor for a child seat (not necessary to install). You may have to also pay for a provincial "out of province" safety inspection. The only difference between Alberta and any other province is that you won't have to also pay PST like the rest of us. I can't help you with your service question.

Thanks Ian,
I figured there would be duty but GST? Maybe I'll wait till Harper brings it down a bit. With the current exchange rate and selection, there are some good reasons to buy South and bring North.
Did you get yours from the US?
Thanks again for the info.

don't forget your recall clearance letter. Have the owner who you are buying from get it from american honda before the deal is completed.

I know of someone in Calgary selling a mint 91 with aftermarket goodies, supercharger, etc.

email me if interested

Thanks Bigglezworth but I'm looking for a 97-01 original. Found a couple in the US I'm reviewing. On another note do you know of any qualified NSX tech's in Calgary?
Thanks
John

One of the guys in the Exotic Car group that I do lapping with out at Race City is a mechanic at the Acura dealership in the south here. I have never had my car at a Dealership and have done all my work myself so can't offer more than that.

Before I brought mine back, I asked at the Acura dealer in Regina if they had any trained NSX mechanics and they were proud to confirm that they had one. That's no guarantee that he's competent but at least I knew that he'd had the training. I'm sure the service managers at the various dealerships would be happy to share that information. If Regina has one, I'm sure Calgary has several to choose from.
