We recently bought a couple of these to add to our fleet. My squad is still a Crown Victoria, however I've been driving my buddies impala while mine is getting fixed. I actually like the look of it. Some do and some don't. So I thought I'd post some pictures and see what you guys thought.

It's not as fast as the Crown Victoria...but it seems to handle better (lighter and a bit smaller)

Anyway.....

The police force here are now 80% impala's. The remaining 20% are mostly unmarked,
no name squad cars, some minivan pedestrian-clone vehicles that pull cars over, and
some crown vics as well. But the impala seems to have taken over the squad car scene!

Do all the cars have SHERIFF plates on them ?

I'm not sure how other states do it, however in Minnesota all Law Enforcement vehicles have either Sheriff or Police on the license plate (unless it's an unmarked). I'm assuming it's just for identification and tax purposes....

I've seen a number of Impalas around...which surprises me because they are only a V6 (nothing like the NSX V6). They are talking about putting a V10 in the 2006 Crown Victoria Police Package....that would be something.

If Ford or Dodge steps up and makes a police package on one of their full sized trucks...we might jump on that. I wouldn't mind having that for my take home.

many cop cars in Canada are Impalas.

Check out Toronto's Stealth ones...

This police performance package equipped 2001 Chevrolet Impala is painted a special dark blue with charcoal grey reflective TPS stripping and identification markings along its side. As can be seen in the accompanying photo, the stripping is almost invisible under normal lighting, but is easily seen when directly illuminated. The vehicle has a "clean" roof without the normal emergency lighting package. Instead, it is equipped with strobe lights on the dash, in the rear window, and at the side roof pillars. In addition, it has grill mounted red lights, and a push bar. It is not readily identifiable as a police vehicle by drivers overtaking it, or seeing it in their rear-view mirrors, thus the Stealth designation. This special vehicle is also equipped with police radios, a Mobile Display Terminal, as well as front and rear mobile radar. With this radar, the officer can measure the speed of vehicles moving in either direction as he or she drives along.

the US military is also using the Impala as a squad car. the air force even uses them in Japan. Marine Corps uses the Toyota Crown.

I'm not sure what kind of light bar that is on that car. We tried a couple different styles to see what we liked. The one preferred is about 2" squared bar across the top (LED). It's not as easy to see.

satan_srv....that is a pretty cool graphics step up. I love the black!!
