Is anybody else having trouble with Imagestation? Not only am I unable to link new pics, a lot of my already posted pics have disappeared, to be replaced with a red x. I haven't ever had problems before, so any ideas are welcome.

Todd... you're not alone. I've been having the same problem with about 9 out of 10 pictures that I've hosted by ImageStation. Mostly RED X's, but sometimes a picture will show. I was going to post something, but hadn't gotten around to it.

It appears they've disabled external viewing of pics completely. According to the membership agreement:

"You may not take the results from your use of the Service and link to them, or mirror pages from the Site on another website, or create links from other websites onto any area of the Site."

I dug around on the net, and it sounds like a lot of people were abusing the site, using the service to host their banners, sigs, and such. It's unfortunate, but I can understand ImageStation's choice to crack down. I've resorted to using freepixhosting and my own small, ISP-provided web server space for now. Good luck.

PHOENIX, you're right. I did hear that they did not allow you to link the pictures(although I never bothered reading through the agreement), and so I agree with ImageStation disabled external viewing. It was nice while it lasted. :)

Thanks for the heads-up on the change. Unfortunately, all of the "work" that I have done for a long period of time by posting photos from NSXPO and other events on Prime is now "extinct." Too bad they did not allow old links to continue to work and only have this change affect new links.

For those of you who may not have noticed, Imagestation also quietly reduced the size limit of pictures they host to 5MB. Most of my shots fit within this limitation, but some that I took with my Canon and tweaked in Photoshop exceeded the limit at the highest JPG quality setting...so I need to recompress them. And many of my panoramas needed to be (or still need to be) recompressed.

I love when they change the terms without telling ya....

Today it looks like they added a new "twist." I usually upload full resolution shots so that my friends may "lift" copies off of the Imagestation site. I tried to do that today with some of my own photos and a new page comes up offering the opportunity to make a gift or send a card but this page uses a smaller version of the photo. The only good thing they did was add the info in terms of the image details including camera used and settings.

Try http://hostrocket.com/free/ its a totally free webhost. Takes a few minutes to signup. Didn't have to use real info and no credit card, just valid email.

Thanks for sharing. I've been needing to find somewhere to host my pictures. I'll have to check it out once I get on my home PC.

Doesn't sound like a viable photo hosting alternative according to the user agreement :(:

"HostRocket servers are not to be used for the purpose of hosting scripts or images for data collection or any other purpose to reduce the load on another webhost, or for any other reason. Servers are not to be used for the hosting or serving of file downloads. Any site with traffic or disk usage consisting more than 33% of file downloads (non html traffic) may be suspended."

ImageStation has updated again...thankfully returning the option of downloading the original image size

I really thought I had lost my primary photo backup service ;)
