Well, sort of. I'm sitting in my office yesterday morning and my receptionist tells me there is a phone call for me. I answer it and I am told that I am speaking to someone at a local hotel. "There are some celebrities in town for a show and they need a doctor on the set" he says. My first thought is that someone is playing a trick on me. He assures me that this is legitimate and gives me a cell phone number with a California area code. I called the number and was told that there has been an injury on the set and they need a doctor to look at it. I informed them that I can't make it until lunch time and she says ok. I get directions to the location and decided "what the heck". I leave at lunch and head to the area where they are supposedly filming. I'm driving my NSX of course. First I run into a sheriff's deputy and I inform him that I am a doctor who has been called to the set and he lets me through. I park my car outside the security gate and the quard asks "what kind of car is that?" "It's an Acura" I told him. I inform him that I am there to see an injured cast member. He leads me through a crowd of spectators and to the set. As it turns out, they are filming an episode of "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" and one the cast members has been injured. I'm then fed a nice catered lunch and am taken to the "patient". I start to examine him but am stopped and told they want the whole thing on tape to air on the show. I get a microphone and sound checked and meet the executive producer and one of the hosts, "Constance." The entire Phoenix Suns basketball team and cheerleaders were there as well.
Just to let everyone know, it is very hard to examine a person and explain their condition to him/her while there is a camera right on top of you and someone keeps saying "Cut! We have to start again!" I then have to start again as if I have not told this person anything yet. All in all, it was fun but I don't think I'm cut out for television. The show is supposed to air in March. If there is any interest, I can keep people updated as to the exact time.
