Partially removed my throttle body for cleaning. Now the idle will not come down to 850 RPM. Idles at 1500 RPM for a couple of miles then slowly drops to 1000 RPM after 7 miles in 85 degree weather. Took a long time. All hoses, etc. reconnected properly. Wondering that if air got in the coolant line that goes to the throttle body would that cause the problem?

salontools,

How is your coolant level now? I am thinking you lost some when you disconnected these hoses. First thing I would do is bleed the system, and make sure you get coolant out of each bleeder valve, 2 in engine compartment, radiator, and heater core. You could have an air pocket. It sure sounds like your diagnosis about lack of coolant up there is logical.

With the engine cool, I would open the engine compartment bleeders and make sure you get steady coolant flow from them.

Larry,
Thanks for the input. I lost about 1/2 cup of coolant before I could cap the coolant lines. Will bleed engine taps tomorrow morning. Will post results.

Bob,

One more thing you could try is to loosen the lines feeding into the throttle body and insure there is coolant there. If I recall, this line is one of, if not the highest line in the engine bay. So it would bleed last, based on gravity. I beleive that the thermostat housing bleeder is just below it.

I did my water pump recently and I fully drained the system, but you have to wonder if the coolant in the throttle body actually came out!!

Keep me posted.

Did you pull the TB off the intake? Sounds like it could be a vacuum leak as well. Did you replace tb gasket? To check for air leaks, spray some carb cleaner around the area..you'll hear if if there's a leak.

True,
Did pull the Throttle Body from the engine. There is no gasket shown in the '94 manual, only the spacer. Will do leak test this evening.
Larry,
The TB section of the manual says to adjust the idle after cleaning the TB.
Went through the idle adjustment procedure in the manual:
1. Remove IAC valve electrical connection. 2. Hold 1000 RPM for a minute with lights and rear defroster on.
3. Release pedal slowly - if it stalls, adjust idle. Only problem is that the idle screw is sealed, no adjustment available. The idle adjustment section of the manual says you can adjust the idle. But the TB section of the manual says you can't!!!
4. Reconnect IAC electrical and reboot ECM by removing the clock fuse in the underhood fuse box.
This helped a little.
I will be going to Crown Acura in a couple of weeks for a valve adjustment. Will have them look at it. Without the Acura engine analyzer, I cannot go any furthur. At least it is better now.
Does anyone know how to bleed the coolant lines around the TB without bleeding the whole system?

Bob,

Well I have to say at this point I am in unchartered waters! I would just loosen the hose (top most one, if they are not in the same vertical position) to insure you have coolant in there. It may make a small mess, nothing a garden hose with clear water will not clean up!

Also on the line of other possibilities, as true mentioned, are you 100% sure that your throttle plate is closed all the way?

I would also try manually putting a little pressure on the throttle linkage to insure the plate is closing all the way.

LarryB
