ideal size slicks on oe 17"s avans or hoosier

When you say "slicks", are you really referring to true slicks, like the Yokohama A005? Or are you talking about R compound track tires with at least a minimum of tread, like the Yokohama A032R and A048, Hoosier R3S05, Toyo RA-1, etc?

And, while there are "ideal" sizes, you will need to stick to what's available, and what will fit on the stock size wheels (17x7 and 17x9). Some people use oversized tires but they only fit on aftermarket wheels. You can't get much wider than the stock sizes (215/40-17 and 255/40-17) on the stock wheels. Given that, the stock tire sizes would be a good bet, if they're available (which for many track tires, they're not).

If it were my car, I'd get the Toyo RA-1 R compound tire, which comes in 205/40-17 front and 255/40-17 rear.

I don't see how can the Toyo RA-1 be better then the Yokohama ADVAN A032R .. if anything toyo RA-1 is compare to s-02..

You obviously haven't used them and you haven't been talking with people who drive in a lot of track events. The RA-1 is significantly better than the A032R, and is one of the best R compound street tires on the market. The A032R was pretty good a few years ago, before better products hit the market, but now it's not as good as some other track tires. That's why Yokohama is discontinuing the A032R and replacing it with the A048.

What??? The S-02 is a discontinued street tire made by Bridgestone. The RA-1 is an R compound track tire.

Sounds like you're confusing Toyo's RA-1 track tire with their T1-S or T1-R street tires.

whats the price for the toyo RA-1 for 255 40 17, i know the avans are 164.00 each plus shipping? and the toyo tread looks like reg street tires

do some internet search and you might find the best price for you. But on the tread looks I do agree that RA-1 doesn't look too exotic. As it designed as a street-legal racing tires with full tread. They also work very good in rain in full depth. My RA-1 tread is already worn, and I have a joy to drive home with wet freeway for 20 mins after a track day. It was not recommended, and I'm amazed how well the compound stick to the road... well, I didn't drive through the puddles of water on the road side knowing I had not rain grooves on all tires but maybe 2mm of my left front. I'm partically amazed that there wasn't any wheel spin when I drive over the highway metal expansion strip.

I also think that RA1 is little on the hard compound side, which, when you compare to the 032R soft, it might not as grippy.
