I need a lesson in Mercedes Benz

OK, there are just too many models. Someone I knew just bought a new Benz, we're walking to it and he says it's an AMG. I asked if it was an E55 (the only AMG I know) and he looked at me like I should have knows it was a C55 AMG. I guess I'm clueless. A quick breakdown of series would be great (and if it helps to relate it to BMWs classes, that's fine, I'm well versed in those product lines ).

E is equivalent to the 5 series
S is equivalent to the 7 series
M and G are equivalent to the X series (X5 for the M although G is kinda different altogether)
CLK is equivalent to the future 4 series
CL is equivalent to the 6 series
SLK is equivalent to the Z3-Z4
SL is equivalent tot the 6 series convertible

you are welcome. This said however, it may be difficult to always put a direct class relationship between the 2 manufacturers. I might even be off in a couple of them, so use only as an approximate reference...
