All my paperwork is in.

I finally decided to do it and enlist. BMW sucks, I can't stand it there. Nothing to do with the dealership, but I'm not made for customer service. I'm not a huge fan of retail, so I'll probably go back to Brinks for a bit before my induction in January. Of course, I still have to pass the aptitude test and physical, but that shouldn't be a problem at all.

Chances are I'll be posted back in Edmonton, since I applied as an 031, or Infantry Soldier. Hopefully a spot with 1 PPCLI will be available and I can get in there. Of course, they're off rotation right now as well, the Van Doos are in Afghanistan right now. So my hope is that I come out of training into a workup then deploy to Afghanistan right away.

Speaking from a purely financial point of view, one deployment will give me enough money to pay off all my debts and supercharge my NSX. :D From a personal point of view, it's a cause I believe in and one I'm willing to serve for.

So yeah, huge lifestyle change coming up!!! I'm super-excited about this and feel it's going to be something I can look forward to, and look back on and be proud of.

If you travel thru Ft Bragg on your Army career, look me up. I work with the 21/24th Special Tactics Squadron and their Combat Controllers.

Pope AFB will soon become Bragg Army Airfield.

Congratulations! You have joined one of the finest and most capable armies in theworld! Having served 17 years in our NAVY, I am always impressed and sometimes even amazed at what our soldiers (sailors and airmen) can do.

PPCLI is a fine unit. My drill instructor was one of them. The man was right out of a movie. Master Warrant Officer Baumgarten. That guy would scare the Taliban to death just by yelling at them.

Good luck with your training!

Cheers,
Sean

Wow Ryan!!!
Good for you, it looks like you have made the best choice for yourself.
Let us know when and where your going if anywhere.
Did you still want my exhaust next week for a bit or are you wintering your car right away?

Congrats! I used to support Recruitment for DND and my brother in law and more than half my staff is in the reserves, one of our guys is off to Afgan in a few weeks.

Holy Cow 9EagleAWD. Speechless on your decision man. Best of luck. Btw, my buddy is in the infantry in China. He says he gets paid around 20/month...that's 20 RMB during his first year. Works out to be a WOPPIN' $2.70 Cdn a month. Imagine what you can pay off with that! But then I guess it's a huge paychq considering there's only approx 350,000,000 soldiers they have to feed.

Yeah, but with the prices of stuff from China he can buy a 50" Plasma, a DVD player and 1,000 DVDs a month:wink: (Just don't buy the toothpaste!)

Bravo Ryan...your going to kill two birds with one stone...lol...that is...pay off the car and not miss the fact that it has to be wintered any way:biggrin:
All the best and God's speed buddy:wink:

Dam:cool:

Ryan,
I hope you have thought about this, and your total decision is not based on the money factor.
I have a friend being deployed into Afghanistan within the next few weeks.
Hope all goes well and all the best.
Stay safe.

LOL...Good and bad...yes u can buy a lot depending where you are, but it will probably break down in a short time. That's the good part..the bad part is...your neighbours will stalk and jack your ass sooner or later. A lady, owner of a convenient store in a rural place where my buddy lives got stabbed from a robbery. She got impaled for $0.75 Cdn...The danger is not how much money you have, but how much money they "think" you have. It's a tuff world over there.

Good thing Allan just brought up 1991 Canadian car number 52 from the states last week. I know you can't be replaced Ryan but he can fill in for ya!

And leave me the keys as well since mine is gone in the shop next Monday for a month or so.

Thanks for the support guys.

And kaz1116, trust me, I did not join the military for the money, haha!!! I'm making almost double that at BMW but get absolutely zero satisfaction from the job and feel it's a waste of my time. I have a few friends that have been deployed to Afghanistan and all have come home in one piece, albeit with lots of stories.

I have several friends that deployed to Kabul and Kandahar. They all said the experience changed their lives and they would do it again in a heartbeat!

So I wrote my aptitude test today and did just fine... My interview and medical are on Thursday, so I get to miss another morning of work, much to Dan's displeasure, I'm sure... :p

Looks like Januray for BMQ might be a reasonable schedule after all.

My only concern right now is that my older brother is getting married in May; and I'm the Best Man. So I better be done Basic by then, haha!

They will know the course schedules for the spring already, you should ask them what the dates of your BMQ course are.

Congrats & good luck! Keep us posted here about how you are doing.

If you want any help, advice, or what to expect a few of my boys have run (as in they are the trainers) the Basic program - I can hook you up with them.
